A Journey from Cambodia to Laos... Through Bangkok!? 🙄

Where to Begin?

This has really been quite the day of traveling. It all started off with a cancelled flight from Cambodia to Laos. After we realized our flight was cancelled (we never received any notification) we went over to the Lao Airlines office to speak with an agent. There was just one little problem, there were NO agents at the airport.

We spent about an hour trying to track down anybody who could help us out and possibly get us on another flight to Laos. One of the airport staff finally phoned Lao Airlines and got an agent to come to the airport.

The agent arrived at the airport 30 minutes later where he spent the better part of another hour slamming the keys on his computer, trying to get us on another flight. After several failed attempts, and computer updates, he eventually got the flight booked to Bangkok where we would transfer to Laos.

Awesome, our troubles were over!! 😁

An hour later we landed in Bangkok. We needed to pick up the tickets for our next flight so that we could get to Vientiane, Laos (our final destination). After searching for a while, we found the correct transfer counter. The agent behind the counter took both of our passports and began printing out our boarding passes. That was until he looked at Kristen's passport. 🤦‍♂️

Her passport didn't have a full page left for the Laos visa stamps. He explained that we would probably have to stay in Thailand until we could get an emergency passport from the US Embassy. The agent took pictures of both of our passports, as well as our flight and hotel itineraries, before telling us to wait while he contacted Laos immigration. We were officially in travel limbo (or purgatory LOL).

Luckily it didn't take long before we got the go ahead from Laos immigration. Kristen had to sign a waiver that basically stated that Laos Airlines weren't responsible if she couldn't get through, which wasn't too assuring. The agent also told us that we had to go to the US Embassy in Laos tomorrow so that Kristen could get a new passport. So we grabbed our stuff, and our tickets, and boarded the flight.

We made it into Laos and through immigration without incident! And despite all the red tape we went through today, we managed to arrive only an hour later than our original flight. This goes to show that when you run into issues, just go with the flow. Don't stress. Don't panic. Just keep taking the next step. Kinda like life, huh?

Anyways, now we have an 8am appointment at the US Embassy in Vientiane tomorrow morning where Kristen can hopefully get her passport sorted. They say that passports can be issued within 5 days if it's expedited so I hope that's accurate because we leave in 5 days. Here's to hoping!!

PS - The MinnowFund voting round will be opening here shortly. Be sure to head over to the @minnowfund page and vote on this week's candidates!!
