I found it a little strange when people started saying if X or Y wins the election, I'm going to leave the US for Canada. The culture in Canada is very similar to that of the United States, and the political struggle is almost identical, though perhaps the level of control that the government has is lagging behind the US by a few years.
Yet, there is a country not so far away which offers great opportunities, an emerging technology industry, beautiful scenery, amazing beaches, a blend of many rich cultures, a large amount of personal and economic liberty, and (if you work online) a very low cost of living.
If you live in the US, I know you've probably been told that Mexico is a dangerous place where people can't walk down the street without being hit by stray bullets or being chopped up by chainsaws but after living here for more than two years, I must say that any threat has been greatly exaggerated.
If you're willing to treat a foreign culture with respect, and you're looking for a real change in your way of life, perhaps you should consider coming to Mexico.
