Anyone who wants to visit Monet's in Giverny will probably go straight to his very famous "japanese pond", immortalised in many of his paintings. There's nothing wrong there, in fact I very much agree if anyone do that. Fact is, almost every tourist that went in there have the same idea to either linger there, sit in the bench under the willow tree, stand and take selfies by the bridge, even read a book or have a picnic by the stream.
Or perhaps that's just me.
Who wants to walk through that path and straight to the house?
The entrance to his house goes straight to the shop exiting to the garden. Although there is a map, it's easy to follow when going around the garden. The pond on another hand was built in an adjascent land Monet bought, accessible via a tunnel under the road beside his house. It won't be missed but his garden is rather huge.
A great thing for us, we took our time in the garden I can describe only as having riots of different colours and heaveny smell, a feast to the senses.
The icing on the cake
Having our fill, going to the pond was next. After the tunnel, tall shrubberies lined the path in both sides directing tourists to the 1st bridge. Although it's not the main one, it gives another perspective of the pond, giving a glimpse to the main one across it. To the back of it is a couple of boats nicely hidden and attached to a tree. Perhaps they are still functional?
There is that feeling of wonder whenever something wonderfall and awesome that we have only been seeing in books, paintings, in the movies, and among other things becomes a reality. Monet's paintings certainly have that allure that draws you in. I am not a painter nor an artist but I appreciate those who are and their works.
For a day out whenever anyone visits Paris, Giverny is pretty much a very cool place, more so for those who love Monet's works. And if our experience in going was anything to go by, I would rather go around his house first, then to the pond. I will leave his rose garden for last.
