Tasha's is a restaurant chain here in South Africa. It started in Johannesburg, back in 2005, and is known for it's amalgamated fine dining coffee shop style.
They describe themselves as
Both comfortable and sophisticated, kind of like putting your feet on an insanely expensive couch.
Every Tasha's has a different theme, but not in a tacky way. They are known for their beautiful interiors and gorgeous food.
Here in Cape Town there are four Tasha's; one at the VnA Waterfront, which is inspired by Spain, one at Canal Walk, inspired by Art Deco, and two in Constantia, one inspired by French Country, and the other, a Waffle house. I'd love to see a Tasha's in Kloof street. I think that would work so well.
Yesterday, a friend and I went to the Tasha's in Canal Walk, for a quick lunch. Neither of us were super hungry, so we split a salad and each ordered a granita to drink. We shared the Heirloom Halloumi salad, which had heirloom tomatoes, middle eastern spiced halloumi, fennel, cucumber, red onion, and a STUNNING mint & pomegranate dressing.
It was DIVINE! I absolutely love, love, LOVED it! The fennel and halloumi were the stars of the dish, and it was so delicately spiced.
We also each had a granita, which is a frozen drink made with fresh herbs and cordials. I had the Elderflower and Pear granita, and my friend had the Cherry and Lemongrass. Both were sublime, but the Cherry and Lemongrass was the best.
As I mentioned earlier, each store has it's own theme, and Canal Walk's theme is "Art Deco". I am a massive fan of Art Deco, and so, loved the layout and design of this restaurant. The floors were a graphic black and white with a gold stripe, and the tables were all a faux grey marble. Lots of brass and green velvet, with dark wood bentwood chairs and pretty white marble accents. Quite a surprise in a big shopping mall.

I loved the whole vibe, and can't wait to go to the VnA Waterfront store again, to have a closer look at the decor.
Especially loved the bar with the gold coffee machine!

Here's a little vid I found on their website, encapsulating exactly what they do at Tasha's!
