Visit the Azores #5: Lakes discovery tour Part # 1 [EN]

We are back from Corvo earlier than expected so that we have time for an island discovery tour in the afternoon. Flores has an incredible amount of lakes that want to be explored! ;-)

From Santa Cruz we drive over the ER2-2 and turn right at the border of the Reserva Florestal Natural do Morro Alto to get to the first lakes. The Lagoa Seca (right side of the street) and the Lagoa Branca (left side of the street) are not that spectacular.

But a must-do are the Lagoa Comprida and Caldeira Negra. To reach them, go back to the ER2-2 and take the next possible road on the right. A short walk leads to the lakes, which are right next to each other. The view is breath-taking!

The lakes are directly next to each other

The two lakes have a very different colour, so this is a real spectacle of nature and gives great panoramic pictures.

We continue south along a small country road to reach Lagoa Rasa and Lagoa Funda. Unfortunately, the weather wrecks our plans here.

We returned to that spot when the weather was better the next day and were happy to take this picture:
