Hello Steemians,
after our 25-part tour on the island of Corsica we move some miles south to another beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea: Sardinia.

Sardina is the second largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. The island belongs to Italy, but is an autonom region. I visited Sardinia with my wife in autumn 2009. All shots were taken with a Panasonic DMC-TZ3.

We flew from Munich to Olbia in the north of the island. We had booked in advance a rental car for 14 days as well as 5 different hotels along the east coast of the island. The return flight to Munich started in Cagliari in the south of the island.

For the first 4 nights we had booked a room at the Hotel Balocco (http://www.hotelbalocco.it) on the outskirts of Porto Cervo. Since we traveled in the low season, many hotels and restaurants in Porto Cervo were already closed.

We paid about 90 euros per night in a double room with breakfast. From our terrace we had a nice view over the port of Porto Cervo.

When we wemt to our rental car in the morning after the first night, we met 2 cyclists from Germany, who had spent the night in another hotel in Porto Cervo and paid almost 300 euros. They were very disappointed that also our hotel had opened. The local police had recommended the cyclists the expensive hotel with the advice, that no other hotel has opened.

On our first day we explored the surroundings of Porto Cervo. Our first destination was the beach Spiaggia del Principe, which is considered the best beach of the Costa Smeralda.

A few kilometers further south is the beach Spiaggia di Rena Bianca, which is also very beautiful.

From here you have a beautiful view to the impressive island Isola Tavolara.

On the first evening we drove to the village of Baja Sardinia, where we were looking for a restaurant for dinner.

In the evening we explored the port of Porto Cervo and were looking for an ice cream parlor. One of the pubs at the harbor was still open and also a few varieties of ice in the offer. Better than nothing.

Next week we will explore the island Isola Maddalene north of Porto Cervo.
