It has been one week now since Hivefest ended and we wish we would be still there with all the others. It was just awesome!!
What an extraordinary community we have!!
I guess you all know what I am talking about. Interacting on this platform is already special. The Meetups all over the world are unique. But Hivefest always was and probably always will be the highlight of it all.
We love it when the community gets together to discuss ideas, share visions, and connect. - So of course for us, it has been a great honor and pleasure to be there with all the others and talk about the first steps of the project.
For those who haven't seen the talk yet - here is the link to conference day one. Worldmappin starts at 2:04hrs:
So what did we talk about?
General information and stats for everyone to dive into the topic
worldmappin.com is a map, where every Hive blogger can pin their posts. It is currently used by 14.230 Users in the Worldmappin Community. Basically, we use it in two ways:
A: Each user has a unique world map where they can pin their trips and memories and look back at it every time
B: All travelers use it as a travel guide to find more information and inspiration for their next trips, by clicking on the pinned blogs.
We have over 120.000 blog posts linked to the map already. They all have been curated daily by our curation team. Every day we highlight the best of the day in our Traveldigest posts for more visibility.
Also, the top-of-the-day posts earn votes from our worldmappin curation trail incl. blocktrades account, which always has been a great supporter of the project. - thanks @blocktrades for that <3
Because of all that great work from @pinmapple and now @worldmappin team, the community is quite big and important within the Hive community.
When @martibis, @livinguktaiwan and @choogirl decided to shut down the @pinmapple project in May, it was clear to us, @detlev and @lizanomadsoul, that we had to save this important community and its spirit.
Because what in our opinion makes Hive so special is the people on it. I know we feel it mostly at events like Hivefest, but also daily on this blockchain.
To our knowledge, there is no other platform where you find such diverse people from all over the world, with different ages, cultures, backgrounds, and interests who are all meeting each other at the same level. They are truly interested in connecting and wanting to develop this community/project together to the next level.
The travelers on this platform are like ambassadors for this spirit. So we decided to gather a great team of experienced Hivians to continue this legacy and think it even bigger.
Once we had the team ready, we set the following goals:
- bring more users to Hive through the map
- support the community (first travel, then others - to connect the people more)
- finance the project in a sustainable way
- run it open source
For the start, we set up a proposal and got funded thanks to the big support of the community! - Thanks again to everyone who voted for it!!
So where are we on these promises after 3 months of hard teamwork?
Phase 1: Development, Curation, and Community Management - Build new infrastructure, transfer data
We had face to face meetings with our development team and curation team and we were able to achieve the following already
✅ Creation of new infrastructure for the map, pinning service and curation tool
✅ purchase and organization of all servers, domains, subdomains and other licenses for the server
✅ the existing code has been checked partly, updated and transferred to new servers and backup
✅Restart of daily curation: Updated curation tool, recruited new team members and taught them how to use the curation tool to manage the curation trail
✅Restart of daily community management: Check and control Hive community to make sure everyone follows the rules, there is no abuse and all questions are answered. Also, all comments and mentions are seen and answered within 24 hrs.
Phase 2: Maintain the quality of service
✅ We secured that the infrastructure works fine
✅ the curation team grew to a healthy group size that is active, good and could do the job at any time.
✅The community is growing day by day
✅Together with the community and the team of developers we continuously collect ideas, discuss them at meetups and create a list of doable new "features and functions" for the next version of Worldmappin
Phase 3: Develop the project
✅The code has been put open source at: github.com/WorldMapPin/fronten
✅we already have a new version of the map in testing phase, which is much faster, prettier and easy to handle. Here you see a few screenshots to get an idea:
Apart from that of course we brought some other ideas and collected even more at Hivefest, after the presentation.
Thanks for your input and help on that @jarvie, @roelandp, @acidyo, @blocktrades and many more.
Some of them are already in the making, others are still being discussed in the team or together with other projects.
But more about that soon so stay tuned! ;) - If you in the meantime also have some ideas for the future of @worldmappin, let us know and we will see what we can do.
