The Unique Tradition: Similar Statue's Body Above the Tomb

Early last year we visit the districts Barus. We conducted a review of the many tombs and artifacts of historical relics from some of the old culture there. In the observation that we did, we saw a new tradition that developed in the early 70s, that is, they carve statues for the dead and place them on top of the tomb.

The sculptures are deliberately sculpted, his face like the face chiseled bodies buried underneath. This new culture is growing and does not rely on any religion, whether Islam, Christianity, and the religion of their ancestors. Because when we read some of the old notes, it is known that in 1970, in a Rural of Penanggahan, there has been a grave one unique. Simson Simatupang grave, a first for this type.

According to the story, the first statue was financed with money belongs to the late Samson Simatupang having saved by him to buy a motorcycle. Clothes are used, all of his are a western style. And then, the culture sculpture to be placed above the grave started mushrooming and was followed by a lot of people there.

Look at the picture above. That is, under the feet of the statues are being planted corpse in a coffin. When you walk the night alone, this would be the horror when you turn towards the grave. It seems like there are a lot of people who look out of the trees. In fact it was statues.
