This helpful post is my response to dtuber @fabian98, who asked us a dtubsnapq question on this video:
How do you find inspiration to make videos?
I see some dtubers publish quality content every day.
It’s difficult for me to maintain that rhythm
How do you do it?
I have been blogging consistently for years and have a You Tube channel with 500 videos, so I think I can talk about how to publish consistent content no matter where you post.
I am not in the swing of dtube yet. I am having all kinds of technical difficulties. I’ve probably published 25 videos in the last 90 days of effort. I am working through my technical issues and I am not deterred.
I have gone from a completely clueless person who could barely post to a much more knowledgeable person how can post pretty well now. This improvement happened because I work to better understand dtube every day and I do not give up.
That is my first tip. Keep trying, no matter what!
And now here is some concrete information to help you post every day.
Consistency is not about inspiration!
If you come home after a long day and say, “Hmmm what should I make a video about now?” you are on a path to failure. You will get on dtube, randomly browse around for ideas, and maybe not find any.
Even if you do find a good idea, you might not be able to execute it today. So will you publish tomorrow instead? Without a plan, you might, and you might not.
Here is an outline of tasks you might have to record and upload videos. This is a work in progress for me, and it can be for you too. Just start, work on it, to see how it goes.
Tasks to Upload Videos @dtube
PREGAME
- get ideas
- plan video shoots
- write an outline or script for each video
FILMING
- gather equipment and props if needed
- get to your shooting location and set up
- film videos
PROCESSING
- review videos; delete the bad but don’t be too critical in the beginning.
- process (good) videos
- make thumbnails
- write video text
- choose title and hashtags
PUBLISHING
- open dtube; upload video and snap, enter text and hashtags; publish
- check results in dtube and steemit (add hashtag to steemit)
- promote in your social media, discord, etc
Whew!
How are you going to do all that every day?
First off, know that the above tasks are ideas. You might have more or less tasks and you might have a different order. But you won’t know until you work it. You need to fumble around a bit to find the best way this works for you.
Make and keep a dtube schedule
If you want to upload daily (as you should for best results) make a daily time for it. Make you goal something like:
- Everyday I will start to post at XX:XX O'clock and I will not get distracted until my video is published.
- My goal is to be published at XX:XX.
- Here are the tasks I will do each day in the order I will do them.
Then use my list of tasks above and alter it to the best way it works for you over time. Find the best time for each task based on what ever schedule, resources, and challenges you have.
Here is my example:
- My current best time to publish on dtube is very early in the morning because that is when the wifi is the most dependable.
BUT!
- I create as much as I can the night before except for the uploading part. I need the thumbnail, text, and video ready to go so I don't have to think too much before I get some coffee. [For ME – this task is done during my 6 PM Canva Session time. I try not to wait until I am tired late at night.]
BUT!
If I did not get the thumbnail, text, and video done last night, too bad - do it now.
BUT!
I have a 2X upload rule now because of my wifi trouble. If the video will not load to dtube after I try twice, I will stop and try tomorrow.
I may have failed, but I am not out of the game! Tomorrow will be a better day and now I have everything ready. If the God of WIFI is on my side, this will be a quick post to start my day tomorrow.
Give Yourself a Challenge
I like a 30 or 60 days challenge. Try to be perfect, but be proud and happy with how you do, and persevere. Start today, and post a video to dtube:
Every.
Single.
Day.
Until your challenge is over and then review your results.
Did you just miss a couple of days? Good for you. Keep going and don't worry. 28 out of 30 days is a wonderful result. Your challenge result proved you are up to the task. Start again and publish for 30 more days.
Did you miss a lot of days? Why? Figure out and do better. Maybe there is a simple answer and you can adjust and improve.
- Did you miss 6/30 days? You need to tweak a bit and improve. You are doing great!
- Did you miss 15/30 days? Is this really for you? Try harder if so.
- Did you miss 25/30 days? Stop torturing yourself! Do something else for a few weeks or months and then try again later if you want to.
Film and process in bulk
Choose your topics (see ideas below) and film 3-10 videos at a time. The actual number to film depends on what you are filming and why. A series called “the Five Best Plants in my Garden” would have 5 videos and could be done in 30 minutes on a good day.
Bulk filming and processing gets you into the swing of it and goes much faster than a one by one effort. You can still do daily videos and upload them if you have inspiration. But as you know, inspiration does not come everyday. This plan gives you videos to post no matter what is going on in your day.
Maybe do a bulk film session once a week or so. Now you have something to work with.
Find topics:
The richest source of filming ideas is dtube itself. If you are a member of @nathanmars #dtubefamily777 (or want to be) you have committed to posting 3 replies to dtube videos each day. Here is a plan for that:
Open the “new” posts for a couple of the following tags (or any others that are for dtube)
- dtube
- dtubesnap
- dtubesnapplus
- dtubesnapq
- dtubefamily777
Open the tabs for the first 10 videos that interest you.
- watch the videos
- make your three replies
- upvote a few videos
Then look at all 10 of the videos you opened and find inspiration for your new productions. You might be flooded with ideas one day and only get one or two ideas the next.
Plan to make your own videos to:
- Reply to people's dtubesnapq questions within three days of when they ask you.
- Respond to other people's dtube videos that interest you within three days of when posted.
- Enter challenges and contests for dtube
- Ask your own questions on a video
Video content ideas from beyond dtube
You can find all kinds video content ideas online. Check some of these resources with long lists of ideas. Find 1-15 ideas you think you can do easily and do as many as you can in one go. Then process your work as I showed above.
Here are excerpts from a random two lists of video ideas I found online in pdf. Both of these pdf’s are easily found. I’m showing you a bit of the help they give here so you get the idea.

- What's going on in your backpack, purse, or bag when you aren't around?
- What's going on in your mailbox when you aren't around?
- What's really going on inside of your TV?

101 Video Creation Ideas by Mark Harbert
- Predict the future of something or someone
- Interview leaders and influencers in your niche
- Interview average people in your niche
- Do a video about common misconceptions that people outside of your niche or community
commonly have - Do a video about common misconceptions that exist within your niche community
- Create profiles of companies in your niche
- Profile famous people in your niche (do your research and write a short biography)
- Email someone a list of questions and post the questions along with the answers
Any one of those ideas could lead to a video series. For example, if you did the last idea and asked 10 people the same 10 questions, you have hours of material for One Minute Videos.
Keep track of your dtube efforts.
Keep a list going of the videos you have “In Process” so you can keep track of what you are doing. Notice above I talked about replying to questions, challenges, and contests within three days. You don't need to be the first person to reply. Giving yourself time to think is always a good plan.
Your list of video projects can be as simple as a list with these headings:
- Ideas (with deadlines if applicable)
- Abandoned Ideas (you are not filming these but thought you would. Track them to see trends)
- Filmed
- Ready to Post
- Posted
- Marketed
Ideally, you want each category to have content and the goal is to get each video moving along to the “Marketed” stage.
“Ideas” should be the largest category. Put your brainstorming here. These ideas will not all lead to videos, but record them there anyway.
Just imagine your happy dtube life if you have 10 videos in the “Ready to Post” category! You will have peace and a feeling of accomplishment in your head for sure.
In Conclusion
I hope this helps you, @fabian98. It has helped me to write it, so thank you for asking a great question.
