Introduction
The idea of 1UP is to create an alternative upvote system to allow our hivemind to bring value to a post. A community can find and curate quality posts equally, no matter how much power the individual has and profit from increased curation rewards. It is a gamified approach that brings value to all parties and increases the incentive for high quality posts. In this post we are looking at how the new 1UP community feature is improving the curation rewards value of the participants.

The New Community Curation
With the upcoming community features for 1UP users will be able to create their own 1UP curation groups. That way they can track their community and reward in a way that is fun and fair for the community members while all profiting from the increasing curation rewards.
To explain the way how the curation system works and how 1UP is taking advantage of that you can find several examplary situations below in visual form for easier understanding:
Situation A
Here we see a small upvote followed by a large upvote. The 25% curation rewards of the post shifts in favor of the earlier smaller upvote. The small upvote will receive a much larger curation reward percentage wise of its own value. The large upvote would still get most of the curation rewards but less than if nobody would have upvoted earlier.
Situation B
Here we see a large upvote first followed by smaller upvotes. Since the small vote came later they push some percentages of their own curation rewards towards the earlier large upvote. The middle positions are still better off than the last on the timeline but the earlier large upvote will lower the curation rewards for all following curators and probably reduces the chance for upvotes from curation hunters.
Situation C
Here we have an early large upvote before the 30 minute mark of the post. In that time the curation rewards go steadily towards the post author for each minute closer to post creation. (This system will be changed with a coming hardfork down to 15 minutes and burn the curation rewards instead of giving it to the author.) The early large upvote pushes much of the percentages of the curation rewards to the author and away from all following curators. This lowers the chances for further upvotes heavily if curators care for their own rewards.
The 1UP Curation System
Here we see an ideal case for a 1UP curation. The 1UP curation trail upvotes the post first and all trailers of that community follow the upvote in order of their own upvote value. The final upvote comes from the 1UP system itself. To make this upvote substantial we will make a delegation campaign and invite people to join the trails. Eventually this has the potential for a full blown SMT project and support the best authors with massive upvotes. But more about that soon.
It is possible for other early upvotes to make the case less ideal. But the setup would still allow to make this much more profitable than any form of regular upvoting.
It should now be much clearer why 1UP will create higher curation rewards for the users. By gamifying the system that way we create value for all participants. The authors with the highest quality will earn more and find more readers. All other authors will be inspired to create higher quality as well to get more 1UPs. The curators will all get higher curation rewards making it more attractive for further curators to join as well.
