Raise Funds For Steemfest - Raid The Garage! Part One - Tools

You can make MONEY from these vintage items in your garage, to raise funds for Steemfest, or whatever else it is you may need some extra cash for. As an online seller for over 5 years, and the owner of a second hand business for many years, I will share the most sought after tools online.

Wooden handled chisels of any make are always popular.

Beautiful spirit levels, this one is rosewood.

Planes, especially Stanley planes. Always look for low numbers stamped on the metal (for example 1 through 10) And wooden handles. When you list the plane, specify the country it was made in, this is important to collectors.  The above plane is a Stanley Marples Plane No. 5 1/2 and sold for R1101/$81 on an online auction. http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/227237612/Stanley_Marples_5_1_2_Plane.html

There are exceptions to the "low number/wooden handle" rule. This Stanley No.78 Rabbet Plane sold for R400/$29.

Original boxes add value.

As a woman, buying these planes on auction can be quite amusing due to the looks I receive!

Quirky tools are also sought after, like this miniature razor blade plane.

If you are not sure of the value of an item, list it anyway. Tool collectors are on the ball, and most times you will receive a fair price if you offer a tool on an online auction site, This Trix miniature plane, measuring only 8cm/3cm/3,5cm sold for R505/$37 http://www.bidorbuy.co.za/item/232522930/Trix_Made_In_England_Miniature_Plane_8cm_3_5cm_3cm.html

Two more beautiful planes!

Vintage Rules always sell, and there are almost unlimited variations.

Don't forget these awesome tape measures, though they are not worth very much, it all adds up! Average price R100/$7

Today I listed these vintage hand saws for an average starting price of R200/$14 each. I received a bid on the top one immediately. I generally offer my items for auction over a one week period. I've experimented with shorter and longer times, but a week seems to work best.

All the items above are tools that I have already sold online, or currently have listed online. There are obviously many other items in a garage that can be worth some money. If you need any advice I will be happy to help! On a side note, we have found that boxes stored away in garages can often contain amazing treasures. We once found a gold Kruger coin in the bottom of a box of  assorted garage items that we obtained on an auction! We have also found military medals and collectible knives in what looks like boxes of rubbish. Happy exploring!

In Part Two I will share information on collectible motor spares, and associated items!
