Nowadays in America a parent bringing their kid into a bar with them would probably have Child Protective Services called on them. But back when I was growing up, having a parent bring their kid with them to the bar wasn't unheard of. Sometimes it was frowned upon, but that often depended on the quality and location of the establishment. Heck, sometimes it was even considered normal, especially if it was for a shorter visit or part of some social function.
So perhaps the mere presence of a kid with their parent at a bar or pub is not some grievance offense in and of itself. Maybe it's the quality of the establishment and the behavior of the parent that determine the level of inappropriateness. That's what I think. But then I grew up in Alaska in the 80's and 90's, so my baseline of 'normal' could be considered suspect... 😏
