Preparing for the Future of Steem
It's no surprise that I'm SUPER bullish when it comes to the Steem currency and blockchain. If I weren't, I wouldn't have already invested over $17,000 and countless hours into this amazing platform. But that isn't enough for me; I always feel that I can do more. And starting this week I WILL do even more!
Today I thought it would be fun to recap the ways I've invested into the blockchain already and include one new way that I'm excited to share with you. ð
Time isn't Cheap
If you've been following my blog for any length of time then you know that I spend quite a bit of time here on Steemit and @dlive creating content and connecting with other users of the blockchain. I also run the @minnowfund initiative which helps new users each week by delegating to them 100 Steem Power. Moreover, I offer the @brandonfrye upvote service where users can send SBD and Steem to receive an upvote from my account and gain exposure for their posts. And on top of all of that, I recently became a Steem Witness so that I could do my part to ensure the security, continuity, and stability of the Steem Blockchain.
All of these things take time and I feel that time is our most valuable asset as a human being. Money we can spend and get back, making it a replenish-able resource. But time we never get back so we have to make good use of it! And I feel that my time spent here on Steemit is a very wise investment for my future and has already paid off ten-fold!
Over $17,000 Invested
Up until today I had invested over $17,000 into the Steem blockchain. Over $16,000 of this was put directly into Steem (powered up) and the rest was used to purchase servers for my Steem Witness and Seed Node. Due to the downward trend of the overall crypto market, I'm currently down over $7,000 on my Steem investment and my witness is very new so I'm losing money ($200+) every month with server expenses. You can change that by voting me for witness. ð
But even though I'm down on my investment, my faith in the blockchain hasn't shaken. In fact, with each passing month my bullish feelings for the blockchain grow stronger and stronger. And today I'm happy to announce that I've invested another $1,000 into Steem Power which has been powered up into my @travelpreneur channel! They say to buy low and sell high so there's really no better time than now to double down on your crypto portfolio. And Steem should be one of your top coins to hold for the long-term. We've seen a lot of work from the Steem Development Team in 2018 already, which should catapult us into a very strong 2019. So get ready!
Investing with Brain Power?
Brandon, how are you investing with Brain Power? I'm glad you asked. And I'm not referring to our blockchain algorithm which is sometimes called Delegated Proof of Brain (DPoB). As explained in the Steem Bluepaper, DPoB is meant to emphasize the human work required to distribute tokens to community participants. But yes, I am using my brain in this way. But now I'm using it in other ways as well.
Last week I decided to begin learning Javascript so that I can start building applications and programs for the Steem Blockchain. In case you didn't know, my college studies included programming, web design, database administration, and network security among many other things. But I never took programming too seriously. So over the years (when I've needed programming done) I've just hired someone to do the job. But those days will soon be over as I'm tackling programming head on and adding it to my toolbox for the future!
I chose Javascript as my first programming language to study because of it's many uses. It can be utilized in many runtime environments, including node.js (server side) as well as every modern web browser thanks to Chrome's open-source Chrome V8 Engine. In fact, the software for my upvote bot was created completely using Javascript. Also, Steem has it's own Javascript Library which is aptly named Steem.js. With the Steem.js API you can interface with the Steem blockchain through a CDN without downloading the full version of the blockchain. How awesome is that!? This will allow me to build a host of useful applications for my fellow content creators. ðĪ
My Future Plans for Steemit
So far my Steemit journey has involved creating content, connecting with other users, educating new users about the blockchain (plus, the platforms built on it), and providing services to improve the on-boarding of users to the platform and help them to gain exposure. But as with anything I do in life, I always feel that there is more I can achieve. So in the near future I hope to build applications and software which can help both content creators and investors here on the Steem blockchain. Both are VERY important to our survival and we should be doing everything we possibly can to keep them here. And I plan to continue doing my part to the fullest!
If you'd like to support my work and my vision for the future of Steemit, please consider voting @brandonfrye for witness. Each vote goes a long way!
