We're Movin' On Up
I am nearly at the end of my first month as a block producing witness here on the Hive blockchain. The first 4 days were a bit rocky as there was a minor misconfiguration causing me to miss my first two blocks. Once the issue was spotted, I was able to quickly resolve the problem and it has been smooth sailing ever since!
I have managed to gain 1.0 million HP in votes thus far, which has gotten me up to 120th place. This is fantastic, in my opinion, for this short amount of time.
I have been very active over the past month, keeping a close eye on the witness node and have begun work to develop some new tools and gadgets that will allow users to visualize data from the Hive blockchain in novel and interesting ways. I have already revived an old project, the Hive Real-Time Wallet Dashboard which I previously posted about. It is now available for everyone to use at hive.codergeek.org.
Current Witness Server Configuration
The current server is being hosted at Privex. The VPS is configured with 8GB of RAM, 500GB of storage and 4 cores with 300mbps bandwidth. The plan is to continue with this configuration until I move sufficiently up in the ranks to justify upgrades such as NVME drives which have much faster read/write speeds.
At my current rank, I am receiving around 10.89HP in block rewards per week, and earned 23.4HP over the entire month. With the Hive token currently valuing at around 0.33 cents, that amounts to about $7.72 which obviously doesn't even come close to covering the costs of running the witness. However, I am fine eating the extra cost as I am able to cover it quite easily with curation and author rewards. That being said, it would be great if it could pay for itself!
I greatly appreciate all of the support that I've gotten so far. I didn't realize how many great friends I have here on Hive. If you are voting for dead witness nodes, especially ones that have been out of service for months and even years in many cases, please consider transferring that vote over to @nuthman. This greatly helps me, and will contribute to the decentralization of the blockchain.
