Word Poetry Challenge #12: Sunshine ~(For #HAYRUNNERS)~

This is an entry for @jassennessaj's Word Poetry Challenge!

With all the talk of the drought going on, when I saw the prompt for this challenge I couldn't think of any happy sunshine-related things to write about... so, I wrote what's on my mind at the moment, my drought-interpretation of the word ~ sunshine.

All liquid rewards for this post will be sent to @teamaustralia after payout to contribute toward the effort of raising money for our drought-affected farmers. You can find more specific details at @bmj's Charity Fundraising Post!

Sunshine

The sun's unwavering glare shines down,

Painting the land red and brown,

The ground thirsts; it's dry, it's scorched,

Be wary, be watchful; it will be torched,

Cloudless skies a lens for the light,

Exacerbating a deathly plight,

The sunshine is both a gift and a curse,

Any day now... it can't get worse...

The sun's immortal fire shines bright,

Another day of destruction and smite,

Rain flows free in neighbouring states,

Cross your fingers; pray to the fates,

Pray for an end to the eternal glare,

Do not yet fall to the brink of despair,

The sunshine is both a blessing and bane,

Any day now... please, let it rain...
