Driving in the Dark

Along unknown roads, undulating as I 'drive' in the dark, without headlights, without senses, without meaningful feedback. There's a cluster of fireflies dancing before me - a faint glowing, ever-changing shape that leads the way. The vehicle follows with me inside, strapped to the seat, misty-eyed and cotton-wool-headed.

Vehicle controls have no Control over direction - sweet FA, but they do allow for little adjustments to be made such as hit next on the music, or push the front seat back. As for speed and steering and suchlike? Nope, these seem to be directed by outside forces - the wind perhaps? And of course the glittering dancing insects on the other side of the windscreen.

Once again the voice comes over the speakers - unexpected, unpredicted and not part of the current tune as I know it. It is soft. It is melancholic and melodious.

"What brings forth this day boy?
Why this driving experience
In the Dark?"

Outside the Full Moon flashes into view, her sheen pulsating outwards through the clouds. The foliage around drinks in the silvery light, as do I.

I wind down the window and start to open up a bit.

"It's only grass my friend
That's what cow-dung really is!
You dig?"

I consider plugging my ears to this nonsense, or turning off the stereo, but I don't. Something stops me, another voice I guess, an inner one this time.

"Ha, well done sonny, let's light this one up then!
Pass me the moonbeam cookies will ya
And now take the wheel!"

Miraculously, it is so and I am now able to spin off in any direction I wish. I turn instinctively towards the Moon, my mistress, my friend.

We actually fucking take off! See yaaz l8r.

"There you go you bedraggled boat, wuzn't so bad wuzzit now?
Told ya, shit ain't shit but how you perceive it
Moment-to-Moment!"
