"Road ReArranGE": A Snippet of Writing from 2005

How easy it is to get caught up in a storm, get unnerved, and find eventually that it has all been within the confines of a teacup!

What crap! That’s hardly the way to start off a day – letting a series of minor events, no more than instances in time and with no individual momentum of their own, simply overwhelm the self.

Phew, think of the interaction – you, sitting on the bike, heading up the traffic like a big, red bumble-bee, revving at the lights, waiting, waiting, waiting. Then gleefully speeding off, only to find instead that you are stalled and silent, with a queue of unknown reactions sitting impatiently behind. Hand held up in apology, kick-start, off and away. 20 seconds in all, no big deal.

Mr Ford Estate doesn’t think so, and sounds his horn, sitting right on your arse all the way down the hill, one-fingering constantly through your mirror. You can’t get away because you’ve only got a wee 125cc and are on a busy road with no escape. There's a ton of road-rage welling up inside because of this bastard and his impatience, but in the end you don’t think it worth pursuing as you have had a few such experiences in the past and they did nothing but embitter you.

No man, it’s peace and cooperation on the Roads of Life that we’re after. On you go pal, and let me get there too!

Initially titled 'Storm in a Teacup', this was written in 2005. The bike I had was a Honda CG 125 (the small bike in the middle of the image above). The photo on the left was taken in India in 2006 and the one on the right in Edinburgh in 2017.
