Good comments are so rare, or at least not common. A sensible comment shows that your read and digested the information in a particular article and not just a glance through. Luckily on Steemit, there is an incentive to good and tangible comments and so is a punishment for baseless comments-Flagging!
That been said, we all have noticed some very odd out of place comments in our articles and some other posts but we could not help but wonder why some people act in such manners. Maybe misconceptions about interactions on steemit; but commenting is not a mandatory act if you have nothing interestingly meaningful to say as a feedback to what you have read in an article, that is if you actually read it.
Some people had claimed that a comment or more commenting helps new users gain more Reputation and even rewards, these are true assertions but not 100% right in all cases because that Reputation you cared so much about and those rewards could all go away within a twinkle of n eye with a comment gone wrong!
WHEN COULD A COMMENT GO WRONG?
Have you ever heard of Whale Wars? When two Big fishes collide in dispute and you take a side by sweet talking one of these Whales or you picked on a Grumpy Dolphin, then you could loose it all just for a comment you made that got on the bad side of this Users with enormous Steem in their Vaults.
When you beg for votes/supports in other users posts(Comment session), then you can find your self in this dire moments of comments gone wrong. Spamming; saying the same thing in multiple users pages could get anyone on the naughty comments list which is considered Spamming.
I do not drop comments if i can't find any concrete thing to say on a particular article even if i read through it. I could read and upvote dozens of articles/pots in a day but i try try to remain cautious not to make comments that could be considered derogatory by some.
WHAT EXACTLY IS YOUR AIM WHEN YOU DROP A COMMENT?
Are you commenting by curation mandate? Or you want your presence to be felt in the community? Are you just a sweet talker; always having something to say even when it's irrelevant. This categories of users would say anything to get an upvote via their comments. Normally, the essence of dropping comments is to give feedback to a particular article or topic of discussions. Some do this perfectly, i mean some comments gives you a sense of happiness and you would want to give this individuals a hug!
HAVE A STRATEGY
If you are among those who just comment off the chart, here is a life-hack for you; Read the First two paragraphs and the last two if the article is a long one and trust me, you'll have something good to comment about.
If you are too lazy to read at all, just upvote if you can and walkby, do not get on the wrong side of the Author or other users in terms of Flags in the quest of wanting to impress an author through bogus commenting!
