Writing Prompts (Week 1) - Abysm

Abysm.

Meredith walked through the halls surrounded by complete darkness, one by one her steps, cold, squeaked on the wood of that desolate place.

— Meredith...

His breath began to stir, she heard voices calling around, inviting him to continue, saying his name, whispering. One by one the rooms, although dark, let us glimpse silhouettes of people twisting, fighting for their lives but Meredith continued walking, that seemed not to matter to her, she only saw the light at the end of the corridor, a light that invited her to enter that pavilion of marble walls.

— You know what you must do Meredith...

The shadows were distorted in their path, giving shape to immaterial creatures that acted as immobile statues in the corners of that long corridor, Meredith continued her step, taciturn, concentrated in what she waited in that place, feeling like invisible threads praising her just like a puppet and between spasms and abrupt movements her body advanced without looking back.

—Do you remember Meredith? Do you remember him?

The palpitation of his chest increased when he heard those words, an incessant fear invaded his body and in his mind the images followed one after the other.

— Do you remember?

The hallway began to lengthen, the road became rough and the pain began to be present in each of her footsteps, Meredith could no longer stop, it was impossible to retreat. Invisible threads pulled on her body and muscle spasms made her look more and more like a puppet, following her master's wishes.

— You will find your destiny Meredith...

The light became brighter and brighter, and the pillars framing the entrance to that place became more visible, the cry of a confused voice was shouted out, and the shadows that remained motionless approached and surrounded Meredith as she approached that place.

— There is no turning back...

The doors opened with a high-pitched squeak and within them the wail of the innocent gave way to a complete stillness, Meredith sharpened her eyes to try to observe what within, nothing, only darkness. An icy breeze covered her body and those cries of anguish arose from within her, giving way to the desire to run away from that place, away from that pavilion, away from those marble walls.

— Never again Meredith...

The shadows surrounded her and pushed her into that room, stripping her of every hint of humanity, breaking her bones, slitting her head and inviting her to a life of immortality at the bottom of the abyss, an abyss in which the souls of those who committed the worst of sins would endure forever in an endless cycle.

That afternoon, in that old hospital, a woman admitted as an emergency in the ward, her cries of pain were accompanied by an almost demonic laughter.

In that place, in that room Meredith was admitted to a hospital ward, her screams and laughter were frolicking as she had committed the greatest of sins.

In that place, in that hospital room, the pieces of a small life were sucked from the body of that woman, who, not being able to fulfill her responsibility, took a knife and full of fury stabbed what lived inside her, turning off the light of what could have been and never will be.
