La historia de Forundio dista de ser algo común, de hecho es una de las historias más épicas y originales que nunca se habían contado.

Forundio, nuestro personaje, un simple granito de arroz, (¿de que otra forma se podía llamar un grano de arroz?) se encontró de pronto en un paquete junto a miles y miles de granos, allí todo era insignificante, todos se encontraban apretujados unos con otros, y no esperaban de la vida más que terminar en un plato para ser devorados por un individuo cualquiera y pasar de plano a su siguiente existencia, rogando en esta reencarnación, correr con mejor suerte.

Pero no todos los granos pensaban así, Forundio recordaba lo que escuchó en el arrozal, historias épicas del abuelo Ferandio, un grano de arroz que había sobrevivido a muchas cosechas, librando muchas veces el destino que tenían todos.

Pero dentro de aquel empaque era poco lo que Forundio podía hacer, había planificado Miles de estrategias para escapar de alli, siendo todas inútiles, y ya casi se resignaba a su suerte cuando por un milagro del destino, en el momento de abrir el paquete, Forundio junto a otros compañeros cayó al suelo, saltando y rodando, yendo a parar muy lejos, a un rincón de la cocina.

Rápidamente todos los que cayeron fueron barridos hacía una pala y lanzados al triturador de la basura, “que horrible muerte tuvieron todos” pensó Forundio, mientras observaba desde su afortunado rincón.

Pero está alegría no duró mucho, ya que de pronto se vio alzado en vilo y comenzó a desplazarse en las patas de una hormiga obrera, Forundio pensó que la vida no podía ser más cruel, salvarse de una terrible muerte al calor del fuego o triturado en la basura, y ahora terminaría sus días devorado vivo por una hormiga reina o peor, por algún zángano dentro de un hormiguero.

Se puso muy triste nuestro protagonista, mientras era llevado a un gran salón repleto de todo tipo de reservas alimenticias, lamentándose de su destino, se encogió de hombros y ya había perdido toda esperanza, cuando todo el hormiguero se puso en movimiento, se podía respirar el pánico entre las hormigas, ya que una serie de explosiones se escuchaban cada vez más cerca.

De pronto todo el salón se vio inundado, Forundio se sintió nuevamente alzado, está vez por la fuerza del agua, está lo arrastró con mucha violencia, mientras sentía como la humedad era absorbida por su cuerpo, blanco como la nieve, Forundio recobró la esperanza, pensó que al menos no sería devorado por las hormigas y comenzó a disfrutar de su paseo, la fuerza del agua lo llevo muy lejos, recorriendo el desagüe de la ciudad hasta terminar en las aguas de un rio turbulento, asi estuvo por algunas horas, hasta que con mucho esfuerzo pudo dirigirse a lo que en principio le pareció un pantano, pero que luego reconoció como un arrozal, y vaya giro del destino, era el mismo arrozal de dónde este había salido.

Forundio no podía creer el tamaño de su suerte, muchas de las plantas le reconocieron, (una planta de arroz nunca olvida a uno de sus granos), y Forundio se hizo muy famoso en aquel arrozal y más allá, a fin de cuentas, era el único grano de arroz, que por su “valentia” y “coraje”, había sobrevivido y regresado de la gran ciudad sin ser devorado.

Fue recibido por las plantas con admiración y respeto.

*** ***

Tiempo después mientras contemplaba el arrozal, tuvo la suerte de encontrarse con su abuelo, aquella leyenda de su infancia, de la que había escuchado tantas historias, ambos se sentaron a platicar, el viejo grano de arroz quería escuchar de primera mano aquel relato fantástico de como escapó del empaque irrompible dónde había sido encerrado y como se las había arreglado para regresar.

Forundio contó toda su historia, aunque cada vez le iba agregando más detalles, hasta convertirla en una aventura épica e increíble, a todas estas el viejo grano de arroz, sin dejarse impresionar por todo lo que Forundio le contaba e hizo una confesion que este nunca olvidaría:

“Ni tu ni yo deberíamos estar aquí”.

*** ***

“En la vida, al igual que mi padre y mis antepasados, siempre fue mi mayor aspiración ser parte de un gran banquete, un servicio real en un gran comedor, con platillos de todas partes del mundo y en el centro, la reina del banquete; una paella española, ese debió ser mi destino, cuando aquel empaque se rompió, desparramándose por toda la cocina de palacio”.

El resto de la historia amigo lector, creo que ya la conoce.

Después de esto, ambas leyendas rieron a carcajadas, mientras contemplaban la siega del arroz, preguntándose si alguno de aquellos, pobres infelices, tendría la suerte de regresar.

Forundio's story is far from ordinary, in fact it is one of the most epic and original stories ever told.

Forundio, our character, a simple grain of rice, (what else could a grain of rice be called?) suddenly found himself in a packet with thousands and thousands of grains, there everything was insignificant, they were all crammed together, and they did not expect more from life than to end up on a plate to be devoured by a random individual and pass on to their next existence, praying in this reincarnation, to have better luck.

But not all the grains thought like that, Forundio remembered what he heard in the rice field, epic stories of grandfather Ferandio, a grain of rice that had survived many harvests, often avoiding the fate that they all had.

But inside that package there was little Forundio could do, he had planned thousands of strategies to escape from there, all of them useless, and he was almost resigned to his fate when by a miracle of fate, at the moment of opening the package, Forundio together with other companions fell to the floor, jumping and rolling, ending up far away, in a corner of the kitchen.

Quickly all those who fell were swept into a shovel and thrown into the rubbish disposal, "what a horrible death they all died" thought Forundio, as he watched from his lucky corner.

But this joy did not last long, as he was suddenly lifted up and began to move on the legs of a worker ant, Forundio thought that life could not be crueler, saved from a terrible death in the heat of the fire or crushed in the rubbish, and now he would end his days eaten alive by a queen ant or worse, by some drone inside an anthill.

Our protagonist became very sad, as he was led into a large hall filled with all kinds of food reserves, lamenting his fate, shrugging his shoulders and having already lost all hope, when the whole anthill was set in motion, panic could be breathed among the ants, as a series of explosions could be heard closer and closer.

Suddenly the whole room was flooded, Forundio felt again lifted up, this time by the force of the water, it dragged him with great violence, while he felt how the humidity was absorbed by his body, white as snow, Forundio recovered hope, he thought that at least he would not be devoured by the ants and he began to enjoy his walk, The force of the water took him very far, crossing the city's drainage until he ended up in the waters of a turbulent river. He stayed like this for some hours, until with a lot of effort he was able to go to what at first seemed like a swamp, but then he recognised it as a rice field, and what a twist of fate, it was the same rice field from where he had come out.

Forundio could not believe the size of his luck, many of the plants recognised him, (a rice plant never forgets one of its grains), and Forundio became very famous in that rice field and beyond, after all, he was the only rice grain, who by his "bravery" and "courage", had survived and returned from the big city without being eaten.

He was greeted by the plants with admiration and respect.

*** ***

Some time later, while contemplating the rice field, he was lucky enough to meet his grandfather, that legend of his childhood, of whom he had heard so many stories, the two sat down to talk, the old rice grain wanted to hear first hand that fantastic tale of how he escaped from the unbreakable package where he had been locked up and how he had managed to return.

Forundio told his whole story, adding more and more details, until it became an epic and incredible adventure. The old grain of rice, unimpressed by all that Forundio told him, made a confession that he would never forget:

"Neither you nor I should be here".

"In life, like my father and my ancestors, it was always my greatest aspiration to be part of a great banquet, a royal service in a great dining room, with dishes from all over the world and in the centre, the queen of the banquet; a Spanish paella, that must have been my destiny, when that package broke, scattering all over the palace kitchen".

After this, both legends laughed out loud, as they watched the rice harvest, wondering if any of those poor wretches would be lucky enough to return.
