During the year 2022 there was a certain remake that caused some controversy because of the debatable justification of its existence, some will already know that I refer to The Last of Us Part I, which we will receive on PC this year (fortunately), and it's not confirmed, but some time later we started to hear rumors of a "remake" of Horizon Zero Dawn, PS4 game that under no circumstances needs a remake at this point, and following this line, we could expect that in this year and the following years we start to see remakes not so necessary in order to squeeze already made games as much as possible. However, today's topic is not about remakes, justified or not, but goes back further, to one of the remakes that started the recent trend of releasing remakes of any fan-loved game a few years old, Resident Evil 2. And yes, we can go to an older case, Resident Evil Remake, the GameCube, but I think that after Resident Evil 2 is that we began to see all kinds of remakes that were becoming reality, Resident Evil 3, the future Resident Evil 4, as well as the remakes of Dead Space or Silent Hill 2, all horror classics that return with a facelift and the intention to be enjoyed by old and strange, but I keep straying, let's talk about the game that interests today. Resident Evil 2 is a reimagining of the classic RE2 from more than two decades ago, which already has some years since it came out, but it wasn't until recently that I had the pleasure of playing it, it was my birthday gift to myself, and believe me I have enjoyed it very much.

RE2 has two protagonists that everyone will already know, Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, each arrives in Raccoon City for their own reasons and will end up meeting no matter which one we choose, in my case, I played the campaign 2 times, once with Claire's route A, and the next with Leon's route B, for those who are not familiar with this, I'll give you context.

Both in the original and in this remake, RE2 has two different routes, when you complete the game for the first time, you will always be completing the route A with that character, and you unlock in turn the route B of the other character, that is, if you play the first time with Claire, you unlock the Route B with Leon, and vice versa, by the way, this order that I just mentioned is the canonical, but the game expects you to pass it both ways, both on Normal and Hardcore difficulty, which gives a total of 8 runs for which you should worry if you want to complete everything the game offers, and although the thing doesn't end there, I'll talk about other aspects of the remake. The most notorious of all, is that we leave aside the static cameras and tank controls for a camera over the shoulder and a control system more appropriate for this times, but equally focused on the survival horror that characterized the original game.

RE2 is a very dark game, I like that, it's not like those games where the flashlight is an ornament because you can see perfectly well in the dark without it, here you need it for certain sections totally in the dark, which helps a lot to the atmosphere, personally, it's not a game that scares me by far, but it does contribute a lot to make you doubt what can be in the dark, a zombie could jump out of nowhere and tear off a piece of your valuable life bar, because here as in the classic, if you get caught you get at least a bite, unless you have a secondary weapon to escape without damage, in this category are grenades, blinding grenades and knives, they only work if you are facing the zombie, if they grab you from behind you have no way to escape.

Something that always limited me a lot in the original game is the inventory, in the remake we can double its capacity from 8 to 16 spaces by getting the fanny packs scattered all over the map, and even with this, I consider that the game manages to make you feel like it's hanging you with the space limit, as a fun fact, there is an achievement that you get by finishing the game without opening the chests in which you can store stuff, so I am legitimately afraid on how I am going to complete that achievement being that ALWAYS my biggest problem is space haha.

Moving on to the weapons, the game gives you enough options to reach the end without having to worry about running out of ammo, as long as you don't waste it foolishly, there are boss fights that give you enough resources to face them even if you get relatively bad at that particular moment, which is perfect, I once lost a run of classic RE2 in the final boss for having wasted too much ammo and then I couldn't get past there, so it seems to me that here they wanted to make it more enjoyable, between many quotation marks, because all the enemies in general are much harder than in the classic game, and ideally you should always run, the zombies need much more shots, the lickers better not even try to see them, and bigger enemies... I better don't say anything, the game is based on dodging everything you can to use your resources only when you really need it, you can't kill absolutely everything you find because the ammo isn't enough for that, so, worth the redundancy, the best you can do is run.

I won't give many details of the story for those who want to play it and haven't done so, because the game doesn't follow the same canon as the classic, so it adds segments that are not in the original game, this along with all the above makes RE2 feel like a new game, a fresh experience even for those who have already completed the classic 500 times, which I think perfectly justifies it and makes it one of the best remakes to date, if not the best. My conclusion, RE2 is completely worth it, play it if you haven't done it yet, and if you already did, fill it with mods and play it again, end of the memo, thank you very much for reading.

Durante el año 2022 hubo cierto remake que causó cierta polémica a causa de la debatible justificación de su existencia, algunos ya sabrán que me refiero a The Last of Us Part I, el cual recibiremos en PC este año (afortunadamente), y no está confirmado, pero tiempo después se empezaron a escuchar rumores de un “remake” de Horizon Zero Dawn, juego de PS4 que bajo ningún concepto necesita un remake a estas alturas, y siguiendo esta línea, podríamos esperar que en este año que corre y los siguientes empecemos a ver remakes no tan necesarios con tal de exprimir juegos ya hechos todo lo posible. Sin embargo, el tema de hoy no va de los remakes, justificados o no, sino que se remonta más atrás, a uno de los remakes que inició la tendencia reciente de lanzar remakes de cualquier juego querido por los fans con algunos años de antigüedad, Resident Evil 2. Y sí, podemos irnos a un caso más antiguo, Resident Evil Remake, el de GameCube, pero considero que luego de Resident Evil 2 es que empezamos a ver todo tipo de remakes que se fueron haciendo realidad, Resident Evil 3, el futuro Resident Evil 4, así como los remakes de Dead Space o Silent Hill 2, todos clásicos del terror que regresan con un lavado de cara y la intención de ser disfrutados por viejos y extraños, pero me sigo desviando, hablemos del juego que interesa hoy. Resident Evil 2 es una reimaginación del RE2 clásico de hace ya más de dos décadas, el cual ya tiene algunos años desde que salió, pero no fue sino hasta hace poco que tuve el placer de jugarlo, fue mi auto-regalo de cumpleaños, y créanme que lo he disfrutado muchísimo.

RE2 tiene dos protagonistas que ya todos conocerán, Leon Kennedy y Claire Redfield, cada uno llega a Raccoon City por sus propios motivos y se terminarán encontrando sin importar al que escojamos, en mi caso, jugué la campaña 2 veces, una con la ruta A de Claire, y la siguiente con la ruta B de Leon, para quien no esté familiarizado con esto, les doy contexto.

Tanto en el original como en este remake, RE2 tiene dos rutas diferentes, cuando pasas el juego por primera vez, siempre estarás completando la ruta A con ese personaje, y desbloqueas a su vez la ruta B del otro personaje, es decir, que si juegas la primera vez con Claire, desbloqueas la Ruta B con Leon, y viceversa, por cierto, este orden que les acabo de mencionar es el canónico, pero el juego espera que te lo pases de las dos formas, tanto en la dificultad Normal como en Hardcore, lo que da un total de 8 runs por las cuales te deberías preocupar si quieres completar todo lo que ofrece el juego, y aunque la cosa no acaba ahí, pasaré a hablar de otros aspectos del remake. El más notorio de todos, es que dejamos de lado las cámaras estáticas y controles de tanque por una cámara sobre el hombro y un sistema de control más adecuado para los tiempos que corren, pero igual de enfocado en el survival horror que tanto caracterizó al juego original.

>Mi única queja es "*¿por qué coño son incapaces de saltar un agujero tan pequeño?"* Todo lo importante está de regreso, lugares, zombies, lickers, personajes, y lo que para mí es lo más importante, el tofu, pero ya hablaremos de eso en otro momento.

RE2 es un juego muy oscuro, eso me gusta, no es como esos juegos donde la linterna está de adorno pues puedes ver perfectamente en la oscuridad sin ella, aquí la necesitas para ciertas secciones totalmente a oscuras, lo cual ayuda mucho a la atmósfera, personalmente, no es un juego que me asuste ni de lejos, pero sí contribuye mucho a hacerte dudar de qué puede haber en la oscuridad, podría saltarte un zombie de la nada y arrancarte un pedazo de tu valiosa barra de vida, porque acá al igual que en el clásico, si te agarran te llevas mínimo un mordisco, a menos que tengas un arma secundaria para escaparte sin daño, en esta categoría entran las granadas, granadas cegadoras y cuchillos, solo funcionan si estás de frente al zombie, si te agarran por la espalda no tienes forma de zafarte.

Algo que siempre me limitó un montón en el juego original es el inventario, en el remake podemos duplicar su capacidad de 8 a 16 espacios consiguiendo las riñoneras repartidas por todo el mapa, y aún con esto, considero que el juego se las arregla para hacerte sentir que te está ahorcando con el límite de espacio, como dato curioso, hay un logro que se obtiene terminando el juego sin abrir los baúles en los cuales puedes guardar cosas, así que tengo legítimo miedo en cómo voy a completar ese logro siendo que SIEMPRE mi mayor problema es el espacio haha.

Pasando a las armas, el juego te da las opciones suficientes para llegar al final sin tener que preocuparte por quedarte sin munición, siempre y cuando no la malgastes tontamente, hay enfrentamientos con jefes que te dotan de los recursos suficientes para enfrentarlos aunque llegues relativamente mal a ese momento en concreto, lo cual está perfecto, una vez perdí una partida del RE2 clásico en el jefe final por haber malgastado demasiada munición y luego no podía pasar de allí, así que me parece que acá quisieron hacerlo más ameno, entre muchas comillas, pues todos los enemigos en general son mucho más duros que en el clásico, y lo ideal es que corras siempre, los zombies necesitan mucho más disparos, los lickers mejor no intentes ni verlos, y enemigos más grandes ni te cuento, el juego se basa en esquivar todo lo que puedas para utilizar tus recursos solo cuando realmente lo necesites, no puedes matar absolutamente todo lo que te encuentres pues la munición no da para eso, por lo que, valga la redundancia, lo mejor que puedes hacer es correr.

No voy a dar muchos detalles de la historia para quien desee jugarlo y no lo haya hecho, pues el juego no sigue el mismo canon que el clásico, por lo cual añade segmentos que no están en el juego original, esto junto a todo lo anterior hace que RE2 se sienta como un juego nuevo, una experiencia fresca aún para los que ya se hayan pasado el clásico 500 veces, lo cual me parece que lo justifica perfectamente y lo convierte en uno de los mejores remakes hasta la fecha, por no decir el mejor. Mi conclusión, es que vale completamente la pena, juéguenlo si no hacen aún, y si ya lo hicieron, llénenlo de mods y vuélvanlo a jugar, fin del comunicado, muchas gracias por leer.
