7 Weeks on Steemit, Time for My Weekly Status Update

update

One more week since I have registered and started using Steemit has passed. So let me see how things have changed in numbers since the last week and what I have achieved in the last 7 days. You can also check my previous week's status report here if you are interested to see some older numbers. After the stats you will also find some more about the things that I have been doing in the last week and some more thoughts about what I've been seeing on Steemit lately...

The Important Stats

The Not So Important Stats

Rank by Estimated Account Value: 762 (23 down)
Rank by Reputation: 285 (15 up)
Rank by Total Posts: 72 (4 up)
Rank by Number of Followers: 193 (4 up)
Rank by Posting Rewards: 727 (6 down)

Rank by Steem Power: 697 (5 up)

Ranking data provided by SteemWhales

Some good improvements and some not so good in the ranking area where I have been dropping down a few places in the ranking apparently. I'm getting back at more actively curating posts, though I'm not doing it for the rewards. I notice that I have been writing shorter posts than I used to before and not posting as consistently and as much as I used to do it a few weeks ago. Guess I have been a bit discouraged when a good, long and detailed post does not get much attention and just gets buried down. In the last week it seems that I have posted more about Steemit than about other content, maybe for the next one I should reverse the trend...

I have Started Using the Steemit Chat

Just last week I have started using the Steemit Chat as I was sure that it will start taking some extra time that could be used for some other things. I see that some of this is already happening, but so far not being too distracting and it is being more useful than a time waster, so wasn't that bad after all...

I've tried different channels for post promotion, posting my new Blog posts there to see if they can be helpful and they were, though don't have too big expectations. You can however use dome of the post promotion channels on the Steemit Chat with better results and for free than what you might get from promoting your posts and paying SBD for that. I'm talking about gaining new votes, some comments and maybe even some new followers with post promotion as opposed to the results from using the Promote feature, the later could still bring a better reward for a post unlike promoting in the chat, but that is not guaranteed.

I've been spending some time in the witness channels as well, mostly following discussions and trying to learn some new and useful things from other witnesses now that I'm trying to be a backup witness in trying to support Steem as much as I can.

Another thing I've been doing on the chat is reporting some suspicious authors and posts trying to fight plagiarism and spam on Steemit as I don't want it becoming a place where people just copy/pasting somebody else's work will be profiting from that. As somebody that produces a lot of original and unique content (not only on Steemit) I don't like my work being used and abused without even getting properly attributed... it is not much that I want, just cite the source at least.

I have made a post about how people can take advantage of CC0 and Public Domain photos and where to find them in order to get high-quality images for their posts without the need to even specifically cite the source and without infringing any copyright, though that one did not get much of attention unfortunately. You can find the post here, it can be really helpful if you don't know the information covered inside yet: How to Find and Properly Use High Quality Photos for Your Posts on Steemit

Other Things I Have Been Doing

I have been learning more about how Steem works and progressing on my work on the friendly and supportive Steemit Bot @robotev hoping that it really contributes at least a bit in making Steemit a better place. The goal of the bot is to support new authors with not established name and high reputation that are publishing good content by voting for their posts. The code of the bot still needs some more work and probably optimizations, but I'm trying to do a bit every day as it is also a useful learning experience for me and a useful experience that may also be used for supporting other projects as well hopefully. I'm not a programmer or developer, though I do have some programming background and that is really very helpful in getting up to speed with Python at a really high speed as it is something that I started using a little over two weeks ago when I started doing some work on developing a curation bot.

The work on @robotev is taking up some time on a daily basis even just to monitor all of activity manually as well as working on the daily reports and evaluating the results, so that is also probably resulting in a bit less activity from my main account. Since I treat my time spend on Steemit and everything else I do around it as a learning experience mostly it is not considered a wasted time, though maybe I should not be spending that much time here actually.
