Community curation initiatives on steemit: part II (and might @Ned be worried about the shit-bots!?)

Following some nice responses from my last post on the topic: An overview of community curation initiatives in steemit (I guess the responses kind of go with the territory!)... I basically missed a few out, so here is part 2 (with credits) >

Before I get onto that.... if you haven't seen it I suggest you watch @ned being interviewed on Bloomberg - to see how uncomfortable he looks when the newsreader mentions that people associate steemit with the shit (not in those exact words) that reaches the top of the trending pages... - at which point @Ned looks worried, and then starts banging on about the 'wisdom of the crowd' and how 'we haven't quite figured out a way of harnessing that yet' (approximate wording) which means maybe changes are afoot to curb the power of bought trending?

It actually made me think back to this recent mainly speculative post by @happymoneyman in which one of the possible changes he considers as a possibility is a move towards rewards being determined more by number of votes, rather than value of stake....... which sounds... radical (and no doubt also abusable).

Anyway, I just wanted to add something in so this was more than just a list post.... let's be optimistic and just say that community curation initiatives are probably the future!

Even more community curation initiatives on steemit…

Firstly, I should mention that witness @roelandp (well worth your votes) has put together by a nice post outlining some of the projects which are worth delegating to, many of which are community curation projects.

@steemSTEM is a bi-weekly manual curation initiatve for high quality curation posts - here’s a link to one of their digests, to give you a flavour. With 65K steem power a full upvote would be worth $20 ATW (thanks @egotheist)

@thesteemengine - is a Discord community dedicated to promoting engagement among its members. You can apply via their discord server and then drop posts in their channel - the best receive an upvote from the community account (3600SP ~ $0.85 ATW) and appear in the daily Whistlestops post. (thanks shai-hulud)

@runningproject is a community group who supports runners with upvotes on posts (not necessarily just running posts) - for details of how to join see this post. It’s a small community but it looks interesting! (thanks @Steevc, and cstrimel)

Pimp Your Post Thursday is a post sharing shows which runs twice on Thursdays in the Steemit Ramble Discord (hosted by @shadowspub).

Thanks to @pathtosuccess for the above, and to quote him/ her directly as to two/ three more recommendations:

@shadowspub also does a manual curation project called the Steemit Ramble... there are two other manual curation projects also run from there by @artemisnorth. There is @fiberartistsfor creatives and @paddlingnature for outdoors focused posts. @artemisnorth does a creatives coffee chat on Mondays where posts are shared at times.

@helpie isn’t strictly a curation initiative, but they currently do a Homesteading and Fine Art Curation and plan to add more (thanks @art-mess)

@schoolofminnows, created by @lanmower is an interesting project which ‘recycles idle voting power’ and resteems posts of members. See this post for details of how it works. You can join via the @steempunks Dischord server ((thanks @simplylizelle)

@steemitworldmap is a daily manual curation program for travellers on Steemit, who publish a round up of the best travel blogs in the daily travel digest (thanks @livinguktaiwan)

#litterwalk run by @hickorymack - not a curation initiative, but I’ve included it because it’s a really nice idea! SBD Prizes for making a post about clearing up litter in public spaces. There’s a $30SBD prize pool (matched by @tobixen) so it’s quite substantial!

#steemitbloggers is a discord group/ community established by @jaynie - the account reblogs posts by groups members, there’s quite an eclectic mix of decent posts out there under this hashtag, definitely worth checking out! - this post will give you a flavour of what to expect.

@Tribesteemup run by @kennyskitchen is an account which provides upvotes to blogs devoted to mindfulness, permaculture, peace and abundance! It's manual curation, supported by the community. Great imitative this.

Finally, I’m going to put in an extra special mention for @steemiteducation, as it’s a topic close to my heart.. I’ve been stalking the #steemiteducation for a while now, but just haven’t got the time to get involved. They have an excellent discord channel and committed group of regular posters doing great education blogs! They run a weekly homework competition - which provides you with an education theme to post on, which is a cute idea!) I don’t think there’s a founder member as such, but @giantbear seems to be well involved, just to give you one name to be getting on with, among many others!

I also should mention @pennsif’s excellent alternative lifestyle show on Fridays, starts at 23.00 GMT… nice way of meeting new people, and he gets some pretty high rep/ long established steemians on the show sometimes too!

Peace!

Karl.
