The long awaited rain finally came yesterday! We had no expectations even though the weatherman forecasted 60% rain while the sky was so bright.
After we had done some pruning of a few shrubs in the garden, dark clouds started marching from the town center towards our direction. So, we began to pick up all our tools and laundry out of sudden downpour. My gardener hurried home on the old bike as more dark clouds became darker and more menacing. But I decided to go for my evening walk by the river.
I also checked out the newly planted banana shoots; about five shoots did not survive the heat. These were the shoots that we cut off all the leaves. It’s an experiment to see which would grow faster: banana shoots with leaves and just the short stems.
The water level in the river had lowered by at least two meters in one week. This was unexpected as I thought the flooding in China would mean more water to be released by those dams in China. Bad timing on their part had resulted in flooding along the river a few times. I had to rush back when the strong wind blew my hat off! Several cyclists were also rushing home as the dark clouds were approaching closer. I got home with the time to close the front windows. The thundering storm arrived with lots of display of sound, wind and heavy downpour. The trees and garden looked very happy in this big shower. All the cats came running into my house for shelter from the thunder storm.
เมื่อวานนี้พายุฝนที่รอคอยมาถึงที่เขตบ้านสวนแล้ว หลังจากรอมาหลายวัน พวกเราไปตัดแต่งต้นไม้พุ่มหลายต้นในสวนหลังบ้าน สักพักก็เห็นกลุ่มเมฆดำทะมึนมาจากในเมือง เราก็รีบเก็บเครื่องมือ และของใช้ในสวนเพื่อไม่ให้เปียกฝน คนสวนรีบขี่รถมอเตอร์ไซค์กลับบ้านไปเก็บเสื้อผ้าที่ตากไว้ เราเองเก็บของเสร็จก็ออกไปเดินเล่นที่ริมแม่นํ้าก่อนฝนตก เราก็แวะไปดูว่ากล้วยที่ปลูกไว้เมื่อสองสัปดาห์ก่อน เราได้ทำการทดลองดูว่า กล้วยที่ตัดใบทิ้งหมดเหลือแต่ลำต้น เมื่อนำไปปลูกแล้ว จะโตเร็วกว่าต้นกล้วยขนาดเล็กที่ไม่ได้ตัดในอออกหรือไม่ เราสังเกตว่ากล้วยที่ตัดใบออกหมดได้ตายไปห้าต้น มองดูแล้วดูเหมือนจะขาดน้ำ เราอาจจะตัดลำต้นมาสั้นไปและไม่ได้รดน้ำเลย เราพึ่งเทวดาให้ช่วยรดนํ้าให้แทน
เดินไปสักพักลมแรงมากพัดจนหมวกปลิว เราก็รู้เลยว่าพายุฝนกำลังแล้ว คนที่ถีบจักยานก็รีบปั่นกลับบ้านก่อนฝนเทลงมา เรากลับมาถึงบ้านมีเวลาเก็บของและปิดหน้าต่าง แมวพากันวิ่งขึ้นมาในห้องเพื่อขอหลบฝน เสียงฟ้าคำรามดังมากและฝนก็เทลงมาอย่างแรงกว่าหนึ่งชั่วโมง เราหวังว่ากล้วยที่ปลูกใหม่คงรอดและโตไวๆ
