If you are one of the many hundreds of thousands, possibly millions, of fans that was unable to get a Nintendo NES Classic Mini then you are going to hate this news. Nintendo has decided to discontinue the product. Unfortunately, this is not Nintendo just being jerks, they have a reason for it.
The Nintendo NES Classic Mini launched in November 2016 for about $70. Scalpers and Ebay flippers quickly bought up available supplies and hit their favorite resell service. Fans that wanted to enjoy the 30 titles that were built in were left to paying outrageous prices for a second hand unit. Then the hack was discovered.
Shortly after release it was discovered that more games could be added to the Nintendo NES Classic Mini, including emulating other platforms. This simply helped fuel even more demand for the little unit.
Nintendo apparently never intended for the NES Classic Mini to be an ongoing project. As reported by IGN, Nintendo did do additional runs of the Nintendo NES Classic Mini to attempt to meet demand. We all know that this attempt was not quite good enough as demand continued to outstrip supply.
