Galaxies are an agglomeration of stars, planets, asteroids, cosmic dust, dark energy and gas nebulae, in a certain region of the universe.
The gravitational force of all the bodies that compose is what keeps them as a unit. It is estimated that a galaxy is made up of billions of stars, many of them with their own planetary systems like ours.
We live in the Via Lactea, a spiral galaxy, there are also elliptic and irregular ones.
Sorce
It is thought that irregular galaxies are the result of the collision between 2 or more galaxies which launches through space stars and complete planetary systems disorganizing their form.
They are one of the largest structures in the universe and in them the stars are created and basically everything that exists.
