I laughed too much with this movie. I had good expectations, knowing who the mastermind behind the movie was, but I think they were exceeded. I was endlessly amused by most of the scenes and this whole unhinged story that serves as a backdrop to expose all of society's flaws. In the background there is a call for reflection, to realize the damage done to the planet and our indifference to climate change. It's a satire not just of American society, it's something that spans the globe with a lot of humor written in a clever way. Targeting and criticizing everyone. It has deserved all the award nominations it has gotten.
Me reí demasiado con esta película. Tenía buenas expectativas, sabiendo quién era el cerebro detrás de la película, pero creo que fueron superadas. Me divertí sin parar con la mayoría de las escenas y toda esta historia desquiciada que sirve de telón de fondo para exponer todos los defectos de la sociedad. Adam McKay comes from the school of Saturday Night Live, where he perfected his art of scriptwriting and humor. His collaborations with Will Farrel, with whom he even founded the Funny or Die company, were well known. Although I found the films he made with Farrel funny, he was not a director/screenwriter I followed like others.
Everything changed in 2015 , when he released what remains for me his best work: The Big Short. That marvel of a movie where with frenetic pace and black humor he taught the public the great economic crisis that occurred in 2008, a real fact that would be the germ for the birth of cryptocurrencies. Today I would not be writing this here if that crisis had not happened.
For me it is one of his best films and the one that made me become a McKay fan. The rest is history, he won the Oscar for the adapted screenplay of The Big Short and a couple of years later he would come back with another great movie: Vice. Only through provocative humor, it was possible to transfer to the big screen, the life of who many consider the representation of evil: Dick Cheney, the former Vice President of the United States during the Bush Jr. era.
Thanks to this talent for black humor, the filmmaker is one of the screenwriters of the series Succession, that magnificent work of HBO where we see with displeasure and pleasure the life of a family of millionaires who betray and stab each other. Series that I have recommended to many and that has just finished its third season.
It should be noted that the director is a Democrat sympathizer, for such reason Don't Look Up tackles the division of American society, sticking some long knives into politics at the highest level, with a Mery Streep who seems to enjoy a lot as the female version of Trump.
But Mckay's shots are not just at politicians, it's against everyone, literally no one is left standing, before the director's machine gun that throws us all his arsenal, for us to enjoy big time.
But first let's read my synopsis of the plot.

Fueron muy conocidas sus colaboraciones con Will Farrel, con quien incluso fundó la compañía Funny or Die. Esa maravilla de película donde con ritmo frenético y humor negro enseñó al público la gran crisis económica ocurrida en 2008, un hecho real que sería el germen para el nacimiento de las criptodivisas. Hoy no estaría escribiendo esto aquí si esa crisis no hubiera ocurrido.
Para mí es una de sus mejores películas y la que me hizo convertirme en fan de McKay. El resto es historia, ganó el Oscar por el guion adaptado de The Big Short y un par de años después volvería con otra gran película: Vice. Sólo a través del humor provocador, fue posible trasladar a la gran pantalla, la vida de quien muchos consideran la representación del mal: Dick Cheney, el que fuera vicepresidente de Estados Unidos durante la era Bush hijo.
Gracias a este talento para el humor negro, el cineasta es uno de los guionistas de la serie Succession, esa magnífica obra de la HBO donde vemos con desagrado y placer la vida de una familia de millonarios que se traicionan y clavan puñaladas entre sí. Serie que he recomendado a muchos y que acaba de terminar su tercera temporada.
Hay que destacar que el director es un simpatizante demócrata, por tal motivo No mires hacia arriba aborda la división de la sociedad americana, clavando unos cuchillos largos en la política al más alto nivel, con una Mery Streep que parece disfrutar mucho como versión femenina de Trump.
Pero los disparos de Mckay no son solo a los políticos, es contra todos, literalmente nadie queda en pie, ante la metralleta del director que nos lanza todo su arsenal, para que disfrutemos a lo grande.
Pero primero leamos mi sinopsis de la trama.
What is the plot of Don't Look Up?
Kate Dibiasky is an astronomer getting her advanced degree at the University of Michigan and on one of her observing shifts she discovers what appears to be a new comet and will logically be christened with her last name. For his classmates and his professor, astronomer Randall Mindy, it is a wonderful event, until they realize that something is wrong. Comet Dibiasky, in addition to having large dimensions, is heading directly towards the Earth, and in only six months and 14 days it will produce the impact that would end life on the planet. He messes with everyone, especially with us, the common citizen who live most of our lives manipulated and alienated by ideologies imposed by those who have the power, not only political, but also those who have the communicational power to direct our actions and ways of thinking towards what they want.
It is a film that knows how to satirize a society that goes beyond its own borders and has worldwide influence. With a fabulous cast, where each actor and actress plays their role, even if it is a small appearance, perfectly.

El cineasta, como decía al principio del post, viene con todo su arsenal para no dejar a nadie a salvo.
Se mete con todos, especialmente con nosotros, el ciudadano común que vivimos la mayor parte de nuestras vidas manipulados y alienados por ideologías impuestas por quienes tienen el poder, no sólo político, sino también quienes tienen el poder comunicacional para dirigir nuestras acciones y formas de pensar hacia lo que ellos quieren.
Es una película que sabe satirizar una sociedad que traspasa sus propias fronteras y tiene influencia mundial. Con un reparto fabuloso, donde cada actor y actriz interpreta su papel, aunque sea una pequeña aparición, de forma perfecta.
Bureaucracy
The great evil of all the entities of any government, the bureaucracy and the protocols to be followed, with inefficient officials and in this case with a president who looks like a caricature of the former American president. Orlean is blonde, rich, has her son as chief of staff, a past with a sex scandal and is more concerned about the upcoming elections than the end of the world. An absurd character, but one that a veteran actress like Mery Streep is able to make believable, plus her crazy antics are not much different from those seen in real life a few years ago in the White House.
The Fourth Estate

My laughter was resounding, I was enjoying watching with irony that scene that seems stupid and meaningless, but there is so much reality in that criticism that will cause you a lot of amusement. While the astronomers want to warn of the coming catastrophe, the newspaper is just looking for a good story to tell that will increase clicks on their website and sales. No matter how many times they repeat that they are all going to die, their concern is a story that can sell and the acceptance of social media users.
I was enjoying like crazy, seeing so much truth in this fictional product.
The show
Brie Evantee and Jack Bremmer Blos characters representing the world of show business. In a superficial world like ours, where reality shows and trash TV are consumed by the entire population, a show like these characters are able to trivialize the apocalypse to extreme levels. They do not care about the great information that astronomers want to inform the world, they only care about making a joke out of everything, the culture of the show at its maximum expression, where the love breakup of a fashionable singer is more important than the warning of a comet that will destroy life on the planet.
Impossible not to laugh at the frustration of the protagonists and how a situation that may seem unreal, is what we see every day in the program. Important news quickly take a back seat to any stupidity that a movie star or muisca says or does, even now are the new influencers emerged from the social networks themselves who create trends of unimportant things.
Among the characters Brie stands out, played by Cate Blanchet, who has left me fascinated, she is a first class actress and proves it by playing a TV star who only cares about the restaurant where she goes to dinner and who has reached where she is, climbing over time, even slept with two former presidents, a statement that clashes with the image of victim that has been given of many, it is a woman without scruples, who only thinks of herself and what is convenient for her. Burocracia
El gran mal de todos los entes de cualquier gobierno, la burocracia y los protocolos que hay que seguir, con funcionarios ineficientes y en este caso con una presidenta que parece una caricatura del anterior presidente americano. Orlean es rubia, rica, tiene a su hijo como jefe de gabinete, un pasado con escándalo sexual y está más preocupada por las próximas elecciones que por el fin del mundo. Un personaje absurdo, pero que una veterana actriz como Mery Streep es capaz de hacer creíble, además de que sus locuras no son muy diferentes de las que se vieron en la vida real hace unos años en la Casa Blanca.
El cuarto poder
Una granada explosiva es lanzada por el director a los restos de lo que alguna vez llamamos el cuarto poder. Medios de comunicación que ahora analizan todo en base a la reacción de la sociedad en las redes sociales y determinan lo que es importante y lo que no, en base a datos, números y memes de internet.
Mi risa fue sonora, estaba disfrutando viendo con ironía esa escena que parece estúpida y sin sentido, pero hay tanta realidad en esa crítica que te causará mucha diversión. Mientras los astrónomos quieren advertir de la catástrofe que se avecina, el periódico sólo busca una buena historia que contar y que aumente los clics en su web y las ventas. No importa cuántas veces repitan que van a morir todos, su preocupación es una historia que pueda vender y la aceptación de los usuarios de las redes sociales.
Estaba disfrutando como un loco, viendo tanta verdad en este producto de ficción.
El Espectáculo
Brie Evantee y Jack Bremmer Blos personajes que representan el mundo del espectáculo. En un mundo superficial como el nuestro, donde los reality shows y la televisión basura son consumidos por toda la población, un programa como el de estos personajes es capaz de trivializar el apocalipsis hasta niveles extremos. No les importa la gran información que los astrónomos quieren informar al mundo, sólo les importa hacer una broma de todo, la cultura del espectáculo en su máxima expresión, donde es más importante la ruptura amorosa de una cantante de moda que el aviso de un cometa que destruirá la vida en el planeta.
Imposible no reírse de la frustración de los protagonistas y de cómo una situación que puede parecer irreal, es la que vemos a diario en el programa. Las noticias importantes pasan rápidamente a un segundo plano ante cualquier estupidez que diga o haga una estrella de cine o muisca, incluso ahora son los nuevos influencers surgidos de las propias redes sociales los que crean tendencias de cosas sin importancia.
Entre los personajes destaca Brie, interpretada por Cate Blanchet, que me ha dejado fascinado, es una actriz de primer nivel y lo demuestra interpretando a una estrella de la televisión que sólo se preocupa por el restaurante al que va a cenar y que ha llegado hasta donde esta , escalando con el tiempo, incluso se acosto con con dos expresidentes, una afirmación que choca con la imagen de víctima que se ha dado de muchas, se trata de una mujer sin escrúpulos, que sólo piensa en sí misma y en lo que le conviene. Excelente Blanchet, que da en el clavo con su personaje y además está tan guapa que es imposible no enamorarse y caer en sus maquiavélicas garras. Jajaja
Social networks
The masses, the crybabies, the fanatics, the extremists, the conspiranoids, the common citizen, who with social networks now has the power to decide what is true and what is a lie, capable of destroying, judging and condemning anyone through a tweet. The film holds up a mirror for us to appreciate how things are done in the 21st century and what could happen in the event of an eventual catastrophe recounted in the film. Everything can be transgressed and manipulated according to their prejudices. Everyone believes they are the owners of the truth and in reality they are wrong.
It is important to read this part of the film, because many of us make such mistakes on social networks. The filmmaker gives us a lesson, with a lot of humor, but where we will be completely naked. Some may realize their mistake and reflect, other viewers will not understand.
Technological corporations

His personality is well defined in his presentation, during an event in which he presents a new model of Smartphone, which comes with unnecessary nonsense, but everyone seems fascinated to have one of those devices. Damn! This is fiction, but this is what we live every day with big corporations manipulating us into buying the latest model of cell phone.
Also mentioned in the movie is the use of our data and how algorithms owned by corporations know our entire lives, data that can even predict human behavior. This part is only mentioned and not delved into, but it is not necessary, I think many people are aware of how they control us through apps and social networks.
Redes sociales
Las masas, los llorones, los fanáticos, los extremistas, los conspiranoicos, el ciudadano común, que con las redes sociales tiene ahora el poder de decidir qué es verdad y qué es mentira, capaz de destruir, juzgar y condenar a cualquiera a través de un tuit. La película nos pone un espejo para que apreciemos cómo se hacen las cosas en el siglo XXI y lo que podría ocurrir en caso de una eventual catástrofe que se relata en la película. Todo puede ser transgredido y manipulado según sus prejuicios. Todos se creen dueños de la verdad y en realidad están equivocados.
Es importante leer esta parte de la película, porque muchos de nosotros cometemos ese tipo de errores en las redes sociales. El cineasta nos da una lección, con mucho humor, pero donde quedaremos completamente desnudos. Algunos podrán darse cuenta de su error y reflexionar, otros espectadores no lo entenderán.
Corporaciones tecnológicas
Otra bomba que prepara Mckay para criticar duramente al sector tecnológico, con un personaje que también parece una caricatura, siendo una mezcla de Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg y Bill Gates. El personaje se llama Peter Isherwell y está interpretado por Mark Rylance, en un cambio de registro actoral que le sienta muy bien. Hipocresía, locura, genialidad y ambición en cada acto que realiza y que busca su interés personal, aunque él diga que sólo busca el avance científico y la evolución de la humanidad.
Su personalidad queda bien definida en su presentación, durante un acto en el que presenta un nuevo modelo de Smartphone, que viene con tonterías innecesarias, pero todo el mundo parece fascinado por tener uno de esos aparatos. ¡Demonios! Esto es ficción, pero es lo que vivimos a diario con las grandes corporaciones que nos manipulan para que compremos el último modelo de móvil.
También se menciona en la película el uso de nuestros datos y cómo los algoritmos propiedad de las corporaciones conocen toda nuestra vida, datos que incluso pueden llegar a predecir el comportamiento humano. Esta parte solo se menciona y no se profundiza, pero no es necesario, creo que mucha gente es consciente de cómo nos controlan a través de las aplicaciones y las redes sociales.
The Lonely Losers
This is the name I gave to the trio of main characters who seek to convince the government and the population of the danger approaching from outer space, because at times it reminded me of the supporting characters in the X-Files series, who were called the Lone Gunmen, of which a spin off series was made, which was not very successful and only had one season.

What would you do if you found out that a comet or meteorite was approaching the Earth and that it would be the end? No doubt in a hypothetical near reality, collective madness would take over people and I believe they would act differently, the film only uses the premise of the comet to satirize other aspects of our lives. It shows us a reality in the midst of fiction, a reality that seems to make us uncomfortable.
Los perdedores solitarios
Es el nombre que le puse al trío de personajes principales que buscan convencer al gobierno y a la población del peligro que se aproxima desde el espacio exterior, porque por momentos me recordó a los personajes secundarios de la serie Expediente X, que se llamaban los Pistoleros Solitarios, de los cuales se hizo una serie spin off, que no tuvo mucho éxito y sólo tuvo una temporada.
Hay química entre los personajes. Leo DiCaprio ha merecido la nominación a mejor actor en los Globos de Oro interpretando al Astrónomo Randall Mindy que sufre de ansiedad, depresión y un montón de manías psicológicas, que le hacen estar siempre un poco retraído y someterse a los designios de los demás.
Jennifer Lawrence está fantástica como Kate Dibasky, la chica que descubre el cometa y que será la primera en rebelarse contra la indiferencia del gobierno ante el inminente fin del mundo. Un hecho que la afecta emocionalmente

Quizás esta pregunta germinó la idea de escribir esta película, aprovechando esa premisa inicial para hacer una crítica mordaz y certera al sistema político, a la sociedad, a los medios de comunicación, a las corporaciones, a la cultura del entretenimiento y a las redes sociales.
Sin duda en una hipotética realidad cercana, la locura colectiva se apoderaría de las personas y creo que actuarían de otra manera, la película sólo utiliza la premisa del cometa para satirizar otros aspectos de nuestras vidas. Nos muestra una realidad en medio de la ficción, una realidad que parece incomodarnos.
Don't Look Up is very funny, Mckay makes another great film, with his peculiar style, full of humor, I laughed throughout most of the film. It is a bitter humor, which fascinates me. Some viewers may not like this kind of humor, some may identify with some of the absurd characters, but a few days into the year 2022, reality has become so absurd that it is hard to make people laugh. Fortunately the film succeeds and that is why it is worth watching.
Will we continue to harm our planet Earth? Our descendants will have to live the worst moments, they will be the victims of our ambition to consume all the earth's resources, without realizing that we are pushing the world towards a dangerous destiny. You have to watch the film to realize how bad we are as a society, to the rhythm of black humor.
This time I agree with some critics and professional experts who have nominated it for several awards. It is one of the best of the year and one that no one should miss. I totally recommend it, I was satisfied and I hope everyone can enjoy it.

No mires arriba es muy divertida, Mckay hace otra gran película, con su peculiar estilo, llena de humor, me reí durante casi toda la película. Es un humor amargo, que me fascina. Puede que a algunos espectadores no les guste este tipo de humor, puede que algunos se sientan identificados con algunos de los personajes absurdos, pero a pocos días de comenzar el año 2022, la realidad se ha vuelto tan absurda que es difícil hacer reír. Afortunadamente la película lo consigue y por eso que merece la pena verla.
¿Seguiremos perjudicando a nuestro planeta Tierra? Nuestros descendientes tendrán que vivir los peores momentos, serán las víctimas de nuestra ambición por consumir todos los recursos de la tierra, sin darnos cuenta de que estamos empujando al mundo hacia un destino peligroso. Hay que ver la película para que al ritmo del humor negro nos demos cuenta de lo mal que estamos como sociedad.
Esta vez estoy de acuerdo con algunos críticos y expertos profesionales que la han nominado a varios premios. Es una de las mejores del año y que nadie debería perderse. La recomiendo totalmente, yo quedé satisfecho y espero que todos puedan disfrutarla.
