As many people know, it is very difficult to get a good horror movie within the Netflix catalog, and if you find one, it was probably not produced by the streaming service but was bought to appear within the platform. Today I will talk about one of those popular movies released recently, which are only famous for having an attractive sequence today, but which in its plot is so unconvincing; absurd, rather, that it manages to disappoint anyone with just a glimpse of its scenes. I didn't have high expectations with Hynotic, I knew I wouldn't like it, however, I gave it a chance because of the story, which wasn't enough either. Below, I will leave my brief description of the movie as well as my impressions of it.

Como muchas personas saben, es muy difícil conseguir una buena película de terror dentro del catálogo de Netflix, y si llegas a hallar una, probablemente no fue producida por el servicio de streaming sino que fue comprada para que aparezca dentro de la plataforma. Hoy hablaré de una de esas películas populares estrenadas recientemente, que solo son famosas por tener una secuencia atractiva hoy en día, pero que en su trama es tan poco convincente; absurda, mejor dicho, que logra decepcionar a cualquiera con solo un atisbo de sus escenas. No tenía muchas expectativas con Hynotic, sabía que no me gustaría, sin embargo, le di una oportunidad por la historia, la cual no fue suficiente tampoco. A continuación, dejaré mi breve descripción de la película al igual que mis impresiones sobre ella.

Hynotic is an American psychological horror thriller released on October 27th of this year. It was directed by Matt Angel and Suzanne Coote and written by Richard D'Ovid. It was produced by Michael Luisi through The Long Game film company. The cast consisted primarily of Kate Siegel as Jenn Tompson, Jason O'Mara as Dr. Collin Meade, Dulé Hill as Detective Wade Rollins and Lucie Guest as Gina Kelman. Music was crafted by Nathan Matthew David and cinematography by John S. Bartley. It is distributed by the streaming service for series and movies: Netflix, with a running time of 82 minutes.

Synopsis

Jenn Tompson, is a woman with a traumatizing past. Her life, both personal and professional, is stagnant and she is just looking to get out of it to find peace of mind. Her best friend; Gina, recommends her to see a therapist named Dr. Collin Meade to help her overcome all her ills. For a while everything goes well until she begins to discover strange things about her therapist, and that without realizing it she has entered a psychological trap from which she must fight to escape: Will she manage to escape the evil clutches of Dr. Collin Meade?

Sinopsis

Jenn Tompson, es una mujer con un pasado traumatizante. Su vida tanto personal como profesional está estancada y solo busca salir de ello para encontrar la tranquilidad. Su mejor amiga; Gina, le recomienda ver a un terapeuta llamado Dr. Collin Meade para que la ayude a superar todos sus males. Por un tiempo todo va bien hasta que comienza a descubrir cosas extrañas sobre su terapeuta, y que sin darse cuenta ha entrado en una trampa psicológica de la que deberá luchar para escapar: ¿Logrará escapar de las garras malignas del Dr. Collin Meade?

Personal opinion

I'll be direct at once, in my opinion the film is bad; however, it has some positive points that can be saved, we are not talking about a complex thriller, of course, but if it had been developed in a more enigmatic way it would have gone up in score.

The film is very fast-paced and completely predictable, we know who the culprit is and what are the mechanisms used by the antagonist to commit his misdeeds. Although it is obvious that it is the work of the directors to, according to them, take it to a wide audience that is not overwhelmed by many details, I think it would have been better if they had unraveled a little more the motives of the villain.

For those of us who have seen it, we can agree that the plot is intriguing, it just lacked more work to be a good film. And although the story gets rather absurd with the hypnosis theme; pushing it more into fantasy, the visual effects and the acting of Kate Siegel (Midnight Mass) have been spectacular. This actress, in particular, is slowly debuting as the queen of horror on Netflix, so much so that even a film as bad as Hypnotic can't overshadow her wonderful work as a performer.

The multiple errors of this film are too predictable, already from the trailer we can see everything that will come and it is something unforgivable on the part of the directors. Inside the film we will not find much, not even good twists within the plot, I think the screenwriter tried to make a psychological horror thriller of the 90s, and yet, in that aspect also failed.

I really like the idea that started this movie, but the elements that structured it are too weak, with plots that are not solid enough to be taken seriously, making us confuse hypnosis with a magic trick. The ideas that were used to give, perhaps, more quality to the film were too extreme, but in the end they ended up being unconvincing and the only thing that caused me to idealize it as a child's game.

Opinión personal

Seré directo de una vez, en mi opinión la película es mala; sin embargo, tiene algunos puntos positivos que se pueden salvar, no estamos hablando de un thriller complejo, claro está, pero si se hubiera desarrollado de una manera más enigmática hubiese subido en puntaje.

El filme va muy acelerado y es completamente predecible, sabemos quién es el culpable y cuáles son los mecanismos que utiliza el antagonista para cometer sus fechorías. Aunque es obvio que es obra de los directores para, según, llevarlo a un público amplio que no se deje agobiar por muchos detalles, creo que hubiera estado mejor si hubiesen desentrañado un poco más los motivos del villano.

Para quienes la hemos visto, podemos coincidir que la trama es intrigante, solo que le faltó más trabajo para ser un buen filme. Y aunque la historia se vuelve bastante absurda con el tema de la hipnosis; empujándola más a la fantasía, los efectos visuales y la actuación de Kate Siegel (Midnight Mass) han sido espectaculares. Esta actriz, en particular, está debutando poco a poco como la reina del terror en Netflix, tanto que ni una película tan mala como Hipnotic puede opacar su maravilloso trabajo como artista.

Los múltiples errores de este filme son demasiado previsibles, ya desde el tráiler podremos ver todo lo que vendrá y es algo imperdonable por parte de los directores. Dentro del filme no encontraremos gran cosa, ni siquiera giros buenos dentro de la trama, creo que el guionista intentó hacer un thriller de terror psicológico de los 90s, y aun así, en ese aspecto también falló.

De verdad que la idea con que se inició esta película me gusta, pero los elementos que la estructuraron son demasiado flojos, con unos argumentos que no son lo suficientemente sólidos para tomarlos enserio, haciendo que confundamos la hipnosis con un truco de magia. Fueron demasiado extremistas las ideas que se usaron para darle, quizás, más calidad al largometraje, pero al final terminaron siendo poco convincentes y lo único que provocó es que lo idealizara como un juego de niños.

Conclusions

Hynotic is just another movie to fill out Netflix's catalog. It's not completely solid in its plots and the personality of the antagonist seemed too childish to me. Although the acting of the protagonist was very good, as were the visual effects, the rest of the plot was not well developed causing everything to be wrapped up in an absurd fantasy where possibility went to extremes. Although I am an advocate of creativity, when it comes to cinema and I see a film that has caught my attention, I expected a little more developed work. However, this type of film has its audience, and although it is a forgettable film, it is just a good time pass.

Conclusiones

Hynotic es solo otra película más que sirve para rellenar el catálogo de Netflix. No es completamente sólida en sus argumentos y la personalidad del antagonista me pareció demasiado infantil. Aunque la actuación de la protagonista fue muy buena, al igual que los efectos visuales, el resto de la trama no estuvo bien desarrollada provocando que todo quede envuelto en una absurda fantasía donde la posibilidad se fue a los extremos. Aunque soy defensor de la creatividad, cuando se trata de cine y veo una película que me ha llamado la atención, esperaba un trabajo un poco más desarrollado. Sin embargo, este tipo de película tiene su público, y aunque es una cinta olvidable, sirve para pasar el rato nada más.
