I became a Splinterlands player 15 months ago (15 months and 9 days to be exact) and Splinterlands was my first ever decentralized game I played.
So far Splinterlands has also been a good investment and every month I write a report in which I consider Splinterlands only from a financial point of view and completely leave out the game aspect.
Note: In the numbers of this report the comma "," and the dot "." are both decimal separators.
Below are the topics I will be covering in this monthly report:
Report Topics
- Final Result Previous Report
- Valuation of Splinterlands as Investment (after 15 months)
- Total Investment Cost
- Total Revenue
- Value of my card collection
- Value of accumulated DEC tokens
- Revenues from the sale of DEC tokens
- Value of Plots
- Profit/Loss Calculation
- ROI Calculation
- Final Considerations
- Month by month history of my investment in Splinterlands.
- Does anyone who signs up today still have a chance to make a good profit?
- Contest
- SPT Tokens:
- Contest and Giveaway on Twitter:
- Trivia Challenge
Final Result Previous Report
The starting point to analyze Splinterlands from a purely economic point of view is the result that I obtained and that I published in the previous month's report (link).
As you can see from the images below, in 14 months I have achieved a total profit of 311,16 $ and a ROI of 111,62 %.

Evaluation of Splinterlands as an Investment
(after 15 months)
Below I will calculate the total costs I have incurred and the total revenue I have earned to date.

Total Investment Cost
Since the date of my last report (December 22, 2020) and until January 27, 2021 I have not injected any outside cash into the Splinterlands game and because of this the total cost of my investment to date remains unchanged from the previous month and is 278,76 $.
However, I have started to optimize my card collection:
- I sold some cards that I don't use in battle
- I bought some cards useful in battle.
The Revenues
In general on Splinterlands the revenues are composed of:
- the market value of the Cards that make up a collection of cards
- the value obtained from the sale of the cards
- the value of the DEC (Dark Energy Crystal) tokens accumulated and not reinvested.
- the value obtained from the sale of DEC tokens.
- the market value of the purchased plots.
- The value obtained from the sale of the Plots.
How much are my cards worth?
To find out the total dollar value of my card collection I always use the Peakmonsters site (https://peakmonsters.com/@libertycrypto27/collection).
The Collection section of the PeakMonsters Site makes the calculation much easier and faster.

To calculate the value of my card collection I always consider the lesser of:
- the total value using Market Prices.
- the total value using the List Prices.
Note: these two values are estimated values because to extract this value it is necessary to be able to sell the cards at market prices or list prices.
Until now I have always been able to sell all the cards I put on the market at market prices, but to find the real and accurate value of my collection of cards I would have to consider only the BID prices for each card and the calculation would become very time consuming and for this reason I settle for an approximation.

My card collection gained in value over the previous month, albeit slightly (+3,43$).
How much are the DEC tokens I have in my wallet worth?
The DEC are the Non Fungible Tokens (NFT) of the Splinterlands game.
For every battle you win, you receive a certain amount of DEC as a reward.
Thanks to the battles I won, the cards I sold this month, and the rewards from completing daily and fortnightly quests, I have a total of 38788 DEC tokens in my Splinterlands wallet.

The dollar value of 38788 DEC is $15,52 (Highest Bid on LeoDex/HiveEngine - January 27, 2021)

Receipts from the sale of DEC tokens on Hive Engine
On October 5, 2020, I sold 81000 DEC tokens on the Hive Engine marketplace and received 400.14 HIVE in return for a value at the time of sale of $64,8.

How much are my Plots worth?
On November 21, 2020, thanks to the intermediation of @poliwalt10 whom I thank again and publicly here, I purchased 3 Plots at a price of 7500 DEC each for a total cost of 22500 DEC whose $ value at the time of purchase was 19.66 $.

The plots can be purchased directly from Splinterlands at the price of 20$ but since some plots are for sale on LeoDex/HiveEngine I consider the value of the best purchase offer (BID) on https://leodex.io/market/PLOT that is 61 HIVE per plot.

So the total value of the three plots in my possession is 61 HIVE * 3 plots = 183 HIVE = $23.60.
Now I have all the necessary data (Costs and Revenues) to calculate any profit or loss that I have obtained in 15 months of play and investment on Splinterlands.
Profit
( Revenues - Costs )
As you can see from the calculations in the following image my profit after 15 months on Splinterlands is 338,02 $ (previous report 311,16 $)

ROI
( Return On Investment )
The ROI I have achieved in 15 months is 121,26% (previous monthly report 111,62%).

Final Considerations
In 15 months I made a profit of 338.02 $ and achieved a ROI of 111,62%.
The profit increased by 26.86 $ compared to the total profit recorded in the previous monthly report which was 311.16 $.
Splinterlands continues to prove to be a good investment as well as being a good game.
Month-by-month history of my investment in Splinterlands
Below you can see the month by month history of my investment on Splinterlands related to the ROI and Profit I have achieved.

- PROFIT after 14 months: 311,16 $
- PROFIT after 15 months: 338,02 $

But who signs up today still have the chance to make a good profit?
Compared to 15 months ago those who sign up today grow much more slowly because when I started for example the daily and fortnightly rewards were made up of cards while today they are made up of chests and on average 1 chest out of 3 contains a card.
15 months ago there was no Collection Power requirement and advancing in the higher leagues was much easier than now.
Yet despite the fact that today it's more difficult to grow quickly I still promote Splinterlands and continue to recommend it to family and friends because Splinterlands is not just a game but much more!
Contest:
Those who sign up for Splinterlands and participate every week in the two contests organized by the account @splinterlands recover the $10 of the cost of registration in about a month and only from participation in the contests.
Participating in the "Share your Battle" and "Social Media Challenge" contests is easy and fun.
In the "Share your Battle" contest you have to share a battle in which you used the contest card that changes every week.
In the "Social Media Challenge" contest you can write a post about Splinterlands but with a completely free theme.
There is also a contest for artists called "Splinterlands Art Contest".
SPT Token:
When you write a post and use either the splinterlands tag or the spt tag you will receive an amount of SPT tokens based on the amount of tokens put into Stake by users who vote on your post.
SPT tokens can be bought, sold, delegated and staked on LeoDex or HiveEngine.
Today January 28, 2021 1 SPT token has the value of 0.00121 HIVE (Highest BID).
Contest and Giveaway on Twitter:
Splinterlands also holds numerous contests and giveaways on Twitter that are easy to participate in.
Trivia Challenge

If you're not a Splinterlands player, you're missing a unique opportunity to have fun while earning cards and DECs (Splinterlands NFT).
