On Splinterlands, game time is marked by seasons that have a 15-day duration.
Today, a few hours ago, ended the season of Splinterlands in which I played differently from all the previous seasons.
Since the introduction of the division of Ranked Battles into Wild Format and Modern Format (July 14, 2022) I have always played in the Wild Format.
In the season just ended I conducted a test:
- in the first part of the season I played only battles in the Modern Format starting from a rating score of 0 points.
- when I reached the same league (Gold III) in both formats I played the same number of battles in the two formats until the end of the season.
In the following image you can see the starting point of my test:
- Modern Format - Rating: 1934 - League: Gold III - Rank: 2074
- Wild Format - Rating: 1934 - League: Gold III - Rank: 1518
The purpose of my test is to help me decide whether to:
- continue to play in the Wild Format
- move and play in the Modern Format.
Six days ago, I published a post in which I shared the initial part of my test, my results and my considerations after 70 battles played divided as follows:
- 35 battles played in the Modern Format
- 35 battles played in the Wild Format.
In the table below you can see my test results after the first 70 battles played.
Today, January 16, 2023, I finished the season as follows:
- Modern Format - Rating: 3030 - League: Diamond III - Rank: 841
- Wild Format - Rating: 2848 - League: Diamond III - Rank: 750
In the table below you can see the final seasonal results of my test after 212 battles played:
- 106 battles played in the Modern Format.
- 106 battles played in the Wild Format
Obviously, the data in the above table are of little use unless related to the cards that compose my card collection.

Analysis and Considerations on my test results
The first objective consideration I was able to get from my test is that in the Gold and Diamond leagues of the Wild Format the gain in SPS per battle won is higher than in the Modern Format by +24.23%.
This means that the player whose main goal is to accumulate SPS tokens, within a winrate difference of -4% or -5% in the Wild Format compared to the Modern Format, should choose to play preferably in the Wild Format.
The second more subjective consideration is that I found it much easier to win battles in Modern Format than in Wild Format even though I could not use the Beta, Promo and Rewards cards that I often use in Wild Format such as Daria Dragonscale (level 6), Delwyn Dragonscale (level 8), Gold Dragon (level 3), Ruler Of The Seas (level 3), Cerberus (level 5), Gelatinous Cube (level 6), ...
In my collection I only have one maximum level summoner which is Daria Dragonscale that allows me to use cards at the maximum level in the Diamond+ leagues of Wild Format.
In my collection I have 23 maximum level cards:
- 3 legendary cards
- 7 epic cards
- 6 rare cards
- 7 common cards
I have no maximum level summoners that can be used in the Moder Format, and when I got to Diamond III league of the Modern Format I mainly used the summoners:
- Lorna Shine (level 7)
- Brighton Bloom (level 5)
- Kelya Frendul (level 6)
- Obsidian (level 6)
- Grandmaster Rathe (level 6)
- Tarsa (level 5)
When I entered Diamond League III in Modern Format my win rate decreased because I could not use my maximum level cards while some of my opponents could.
Despite not being able to use the full potential of my monster cards in Modern Format I got a higher winrate than in Wild Format as further proof that winning and going up in rating is on average easier in Modern Format than in Wild Format.
Starting from the Gold III league in the Modern Format I needed only 53 battles to overcome the rating score of 2800 points to enter the Diamond III league.
After 53 battles in the Modern Format Gold leagues, my win rate was 73.58%.
After 106 battles and after 53 battles in the Diamond+ leagues my winrate dropped to 62.26%.
Final Considerations and the new Test
To recap, the last season of Splinterlands allowed me to see that:
1. going from Gold III league to Diamond III league is much easier and faster in Modern Format than in Wild Format
in the Modern Format I arrived in the Diamond III league after 53 battles played.
in the Wild Format I arrived in the Diamond III league after 70 battles played.
2. Starting in Diamond League III having top level summoners and cards is very important to keep the win rate high.
So my test gave me some answers but also created new questions....
If I had maximum level summoners that could be used in Modern Format would I have gotten better results in Modern Format?
If I had maximum level summoners usable in Modern Format would the minimal difference I recorded related to SPS token gain between Modern Format and Wild Format be similar or very different?
In order to have practical and not theoretical answers to the previous two questions, I have decided to repeat the test in the current season as well but unlike the previous season and within the next three days I will upgrade at least four of my Chaos Legion edition summoners to maximum level.
So to make a final decision on which format to play in I will have to wait another 15 days but doing tests, evaluations and calculations is something I really enjoy and Splinterlands which has so many assets and which has different game dynamics, offers so many possible investment and game strategies to choose from and this is one of the aspects I like most about Splinterlands!

Wild Format o Modern Format? I Risultati del mio Test stagionale
Su Splinterlands il tempo di gioco è scandito dalle stagioni che hanno una durata di 15 giorni.
Oggi e da poche ore è terminata la stagione di Splinterlands in cui ho giocato in modo diverso da tutte le precedenti stagioni.
Da quando è stata introdotta la suddivisione delle Ranked Battles in Wild Format e Modern Format (14 luglio 2022) ho sempre giocato nel Wild Format.
Nella stagione appena conclusa ho effettuato un test:
- nella prima parte della stagione ho giocato solo battaglie del Modern Format partendo da un punteggio di rating di 0 punti.
- quando ho raggiunto la stessa lega (Gold III) in entrambi i formati ho giocato lo stesso numero di battaglie nei due formati fino alla fine della stagione.

Lo scopo del mio test è quello di aiutarmi a decidere se:

Analisi e Considerazioni sui risultati del mio test
La prima considerazione oggettiva che ho potuto ottenere dal mio test è che nelle leghe Gold e Diamond del Wild Format il guadagno in SPS per battaglia vinta è superiore rispetto al Modern Format del +24.23%.
Questo vuol dire che il giocatore che ha come obiettivo principale l'accumulo di token SPS con una differenza di winrate di -4% o -5% nel Wild Format rispetto al Modern Format dovrebbe scegliere di giocare preferibilmente nel Wild Format.
La seconda considerazione più soggettiva è che ho trovato molto più semplice vincere le battaglie nel Modern Format che non nel Wild Format anche se non ho potuto utilizzare le carte Beta, Promo e Rewards che utilizzo spesso nel Wild Format come ad esempio Daria Dragonscale (livello 6), Delwyn Dragonscale (livello 8), Gold Dragon (livello 3), Ruler Of The Seas (livello 3), Cerberus (livello 5), Gelatinous Cube (livello 6), ...
Nella mia collezione ho solo un evocatore di livello massimo che è Daria Dragonscale che mi permette di utilizzare le carte al massimo livello nelle leghe Diamond+ del Wild Format.
Nella mia collezione ho 23 carte di massimo livello:
- 3 carte leggendarie
- 7 carte epiche
- 6 carte rare
- 7 carte comuni
Non ho evocatori di massimo livello utilizzabili nel Moder Format e quando sono arrivato in lega Diamond III del Modern Format ho utilizzato principalmente gli evocatori:
- Lorna Shine (livello 7)
- Brighton Bloom (livello 5)
- Kelya Frendul (livello 6)
- Obsidian (livello 6)
- Grandmaster Rathe (livello 6)
- Tarsa (livello 5)
Quando sono entrato in lega Diamond III nel Modern Format il mio win rate è diminuito perchè non ho potuto utilizzare le mie carte di massimo livello mentre alcuni miei avversari si.
Nonostante non ho potuto utilizzare tutto il potenziale delle mie carte mostro nel Modern Format ho ottenuto un winrate maggiore rispetto al Wild Format come ulteriore dimostrazione che vincere e salire di rating è mediamente più facile nel Modern Format rispetto al Wild Format.
Partendo dalla lega Gold III nel Modern Format ho impiegato solo 53 battaglie per superare il punteggio di rating di 2800 punti per entrare in lega Diamond III.
Dopo 53 battaglie nelle Gold leagues del Modern Format il mio win rate era del 73.58%
Dopo 106 battaglie e dopo 53 battaglie nelle leghe Diamond+ il mio winrate è sceso a 62.26%.
Considerazioni Finali
L'ultima stagione di Splinterlands mi ha permesso di constatare che:
- passare dalla lega Gold III alla lega Diamond III è molto più facile e veloce nel Modern Format rispetto al Wild Format
- nel Modern Format sono arrivato in lega Diamond III dopo 53 battaglie giocate.
- nel Wild Format sono arrivato in lega Diamond III dopo 70 battaglie giocate.
- già a partire dalla lega Diamond III avere evocatori e carte di massimo livello è molto importante per mantenere alto il win rate.
Il mio test mi ha dato delle risposte ma ha anche creato nuove domande...
Se avessi avuto evocatori di massimo livello utilizzabili nel Modern Format avrei ottenuto risultati migliori nel Modern Format?
Se avessi avuto evocatori di massimo livello utilizzabili nel Modern Format la differenza minima che ho registrato relativa al guadagno dei token SPS tra Modern Format e Wild Format sarebbe simile o molto diversa?
Per avere delle risposte pratiche e non teoriche ai due quesiti precedenti ho deciso di ripetere il test anche nella stagione corrente ma a differenza della precedente stagione ed entro i prossimi tre giorni porterò almeno quattro dei miei evocatori dell'edizione Chaos Legion al massimo livello.
Per decidere definitivamente in quale formato giocare dovrò quindi aspettare altri 15 giorni ma fare tests, valutazioni e calcoli mi piace molto e Splinterlands che ha tanti assets e che ha diverse dinamiche di gioco offre tante possibili strategie di investimento e di gioco tra cui scegliere e questo è uno degli aspetti che più mi piace di Splinterlands!
