La religión es un tema en el cual la mayoría de las personas están involucradas y es interesante conocer la opinión y las experiencias que tenemos cada uno de nosotros, analizarlas y compartirlas. La comunidad Humanitas nos incentiva a escribir sobre Religión en la semana de la Cultura Humana: . Agradezco a mi amiga @actioncats que me haya invitado a participar.

Me crie dentro de la región católica, pues mi madre y mi abuela paterna eran católicas, asistían con frecuencia a la Iglesia. Mi padre por el contrario no creía en Dios, era ateo. Mi madre perteneció en su juventud al grupo Hijas de María. Además de bautizarnos y confirmarnos, mis hermanas y yo también hicimos la primera comunión, los tres sacramentos de la Iglesia Católica. Pero en la medida que crecía comencé a hacerme cuestionamientos sobre la Iglesia por los ritos con las cuales no estaba de acuerdo y el papel de los curas y monjas dentro de esta.

La lectura de algunos libros me abrió un panorama que yo misma cuestionaba. Por ejemplo, recuerdo un libro llamado “El papado Siglo XX” del escritor soviético I. Grigulevich,1983. En este, hace un recuento de los papas que ha tenido la Iglesia Católica en el siglo pasado, en donde se evidencia la corrupción y la crueldad de algunos de ellos. Por supuesto no de todos, pero si de una gran parte, lo que confirmó la imagen que yo tenía de la Iglesia Católica, un poder religioso muy fuerte, que a través de la fé y también del miedo trataba de mantener a la población, bajo control. Esta era mi percepción en los años 80-90.

Con el tiempo, las experiencias y la madurez para analizar el impacto que ha tenido la religión en la humanidad, ha cambiado mi manera de ver la religión. Siendo el hombre un ser espiritual, que no solo satisface sus necesidades básicas de comer, dormir y reproducirse, la religión es la creencia en un mundo de seres superiores que de alguna manera interfieren en la humanidad, bien sea ayudando o dirigiendo sus destinos. Independientemente de la cultura, existe esta creencia, con nombres diferentes y estableciendo normas de conductas, a las que el hombre acude para no sentirse solo y establecer un orden, en este caso... divino

Desde el hombre primitivo, han existido las religiones, quizás no con un nombre especifico, pero si en la creencia de otros seres o de fuerzas superiores como por ejemplo las fuerzas de la naturaleza, el sol, la lluvia, la luna, las estrellas. En todas ellas está la figura central de un Dios.

Pero las religiones no han ayudado mucho a mejorar la espiritualidad de la humanidad y por el contrario, han creado barreras entre los pueblos. Aun cuando el principio es muy similar, es decir están basadas en la existencia de un dios o de dioses y en sus obras. Sin embargo, el castigo y el miedo son la base de alguna de ellas, para hacer cumplir al hombre con las normas o reglas impuestas por la sociedad y alejarlo de la maldad, pero esta no ha sido la mejor manera. Pensamos erróneamente que cada religión es mejor que las otras, a las cuales criticamos y son objeto de burla o de desprecio. Como siempre el hombre obedece a su egoísmo e intolerancia y eso ha generado muchos de los conflictos entre los pueblos y finalmente las guerras.

Veo a la ciencia como una manera de interpretar en base a hechos, a evidencias medibles o comprobados por métodos científicos, lo que es nuestro mundo. El hombre siempre quiere conocer más, buscar explicaciones a los fenómenos. Pero hay algo más allá que no podemos explicar con estos métodos y la ciencia se queda corta, debe expandir su percepción de la realidad. Las maravillas que he podido observar en mi trabajo con las plantas, cada vez me genera un mayor sentido de admiración por la creación de todos los organismos con los cuales convivimos, es tanta la perfección, la belleza y la armonía, que me confirma la existencia de Dios.

¿Un mundo sin religión es posible? No lo sabría decir. Puedo imaginar una humanidad más conectada a nivel espiritual, donde las diferencias culturales no sean una barrera para la comunicación y una vida en equilibrio. Pensando en esto, las religiones no tendrían razón de ser. Creer en Dios o no hacerlo sería una decisión personal que no debería ser impuesta por una religión sino un sentimiento muy interior de cada persona, una convicción, una manera de ver la existencia. Tener conciencia de porqué estamos en este mundo, cuál es nuestra misión y ser felices.

Creo que las personas ven a Dios o a Jehová, o el nombre que se le dé en las diferentes religiones, de diferentes maneras. Como dice Deepak Chopra en su libro Conocer a Dios, el ser humano tiene diferentes percepciones de Dios: el todopoderoso, el creador, el protector, el de paz, el redentor, el de los milagros, el Dios de ser puro “Yo soy”. Yo creo en la existencia de Dios, porque lo veo como un todo espiritual, un Dios amoroso, con el cual me puedo comunicar. Es muy reconfortante saber que no estamos solos.

I grew up within the Catholic region, as my mother and paternal grandmother were Catholic, they attended church frequently. My father on the other hand did not believe in God, he was an atheist. In her youth, my mother belonged to the Daughters of Mary group. In addition to being baptized and confirmed, my sisters and I also made our first communion, the three sacraments of the Catholic Church. But as I grew up I began to question the Church about the rites I did not agree with and the role of priests and nuns within the Church.

Reading some books opened up a panorama that I myself questioned. For example, I remember a book called “The Papacy of the 20th Century” by a Russian writer I. With time, experiences and the maturity to analyze the impact that religion has had on humanity has changed my way of looking at religion. Man being a spiritual being who not only satisfies his basic needs of eating, sleeping and reproducing, religion is the belief in a world of superior beings who in some way interfere in men either helping or directing their destinies. Regardless of the culture, this belief exists, with different names and establishing norms of conduct, and to which man turns to in order not to feel alone.

Since primitive man, religions have existed, perhaps not with a specific name, but in the belief of other beings or superior forces such as the forces of nature, the sun, the rain, the moon, the stars. In all of them there is the central figure of a God.

But religions have not helped much to improve the spirituality of mankind and have created barriers between peoples. Even though the principle is very similar, i.e. they are based on the existence of a god or gods, on their works. However, punishment and fear are the basis of some of them, to make man comply with the norms or rules imposed by society and keep him away from evil, but this has not been the best way. We mistakenly think that each religion is better than the others, which we criticize and are the object of mockery or contempt and here as always man obeys his selfishness and intolerance. And that is what in my opinion has generated many of the conflicts between peoples and finally wars.

I see science as a way of interpreting on the basis of facts, measurable evidence or proven by scientific methods, what is in our world. Man always wants to know more, to look for explanations to phenomena. But there is something beyond that we cannot explain with these methods and science falls short, it must expand its perception of reality. The wonders that I have been able to observe in my work with plants, increasingly generate in me a greater sense of admiration for the creation of all the organisms with which we coexist, it is so much perfection, beauty and harmony, which confirms to me the existence of God.

A world without religion is possible? I could not say. I can imagine a humanity more connected on a spiritual level where cultural differences are not a barrier to communication and a life in balance. Thinking about this, religions would have no reason to exist. To believe in God or not to believe in God would be a personal decision that should not be imposed by a religion but a very inner feeling of each person, a conviction, a way of seeing existence, why we are in this world and what our mission is.

I think people see God or Jehovah, or whatever name is given in different religions, in different ways. As Deepak Chopra says in his book “How to Know God”, 2001, human beings have different perceptions of God: the almighty, the creator, the protector, the one of peace, the redeemer, the one of miracles, the God of being pure I am. I believe in the existence of God, because I see him as a spiritual whole, with whom I can communicate. It is very comforting to know that we are not alone.
