Went to the local Walmart yesterday and was met with the sight of an almost completely empty toilet paper section. I don't know what prompted this sudden run, maybe the story of two women fighting over rolls in a supermarket. The sad thing is that people tend to wait until the last minute to prepare for a crisis like this.
I think it will go like this. First the masks, gloves and hand sanitizer get snapped up. Then toilet paper and after that, a general run on food. Happens with groceries all the time in Florida right before a hurricane. Long lines and people fighting over basic foodstuffs they should have had in supply after the last storm.
Remember Y2K? Back then a neighbor refused to lay up supplies of water despite the local agency confirming that they were not "Y2K compliant." She knew we were ready and after making fun of us, she said that if she needed anything, she would rely on us. Luckily, nothing happened, however I really believe those who won't prep will come after those who do.
Let's hope it doesn't come to that. With the number of reported cases in China dropping, (If the government is telling the truth), there may be a template for us to follow. Stay close to your loved ones, and if anybody laughs at you for being ready, KEEP PREPPING!
