Yoga and the Struggle to heal: NYC last months

I want to talk more about the time that my shoulder moved and what followed after while I was in New York for about a couple of months afterwards.

It was one of the greatest feelings to have my shoulder move the way that it did. Inside of my arm, I felt the rush of new blood make its way to my finger tips. My arm was hot! I felt a couple of clicks along the back of my shoulder blades. I laid down that night and felt as if I was laying flat on the ground for the first time in a very long time. Strange. I thought I was laying flat until then.

For the entirety of the month that followed, I had to image a straight bar going across my chest from shoulder to shoulder. The front of my rib cage, right at the point where the manubrium and sturnum connects, felt as if someone was taking a screw driver and turning it clock wise. My chest would make loud pops on occation as I did chest opening moves. The middle of my spine in between my shoulder blades constantly made little cracking and clicking noices. Most of the time, these pops would bring a sensational release of tention.

Walking helped so much! (I love walking around the New York streets.) Much of the tentions I was feeling would be released through the walking. Funny story: I was walking on one of the streets near Washington Square Park before yoga class was to start. I came to some scaff-holdings. Just then my back popped in a way that almost threw me to the ground. I grabbed the railing. A chemical release happened. I was feeling really fuck-up but in a really good way. Two ladies turned around to ask if I was okay. I responded with a "Fuck Ya! That felt great." They problably though I was on drugs because they gave to the estranged look. Natural chemicals feel great, man.

As you can see from the picture, I have a big red, black spot. You may have noticed many of the olympians from this year having these very same spots. It is from cupping, an acupuncture technique. One reason it is like that is because of the blockages I had been holding onto in that area. I suggest getting acupuncture and then yoga in the same day. I love it. It helps my body move even more than it normally would.


Going out to work was tough. I could arleady barely move my arms without the added weight. And it was cold outside; I had on thermal layers of clothing. They were great for keeping warm but not so great when your trying to move around. My breathing was also opening up. I could tell the muscles were getting more of a work out then ever before. 🙂

I would go to class straight from work. My teachers were never quite sure how to handle me. First, they didn't understand (nor did they talk to me) about what was going on with me. It was as if I was the alien they had never come into contact with. I'm sure they've never been around someone who was opening up like I was. It scared them (and ME in a little!). Secondly, they were worried about the people coming out of the doors, walking into the reception area to head to the lockers, and seeing Edward Scissorhands. One lady thought this might be too much for the people who have just worked on opening up. We worked it out. (I highly recommend them - http://nyc.modoyoga.com : tell them Edward Scissorhands sent you 😉 (any teacher at the studio that was there at the beginning will remember me).

I couldn't talk to anyone about what I was going through at the time. If you haven't had this experience yourself, you'd think I went crazy. The people I was talking to thought I had. 🤓😏😂

I say, when you've had a hard days work, find a comfortable couch to lay on.

Find a game that relaxes you.

Make sure you never count your cash while sitting at the table.

A star can be found if you go look into the mirror (seriously - go look).

Hurricane Sandy comes to clear away trees from the ground ...
