I discovered the books of Terry Pratchett over twenty years ago. The first I read was Pyramids that I found in the local library. My partner also became a fan and we have since read just about everything he wrote. Sadly Sir Terry died last year after struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. I think he had to dictate the last few books as he lost the ability to write himself. There were rumours that his daughter Rhianna Pratchett would continue the books, but it's since be said that they would end with his death. That's sad, but I don't think they would be the same without him.
For a while we were collecting figurines of the characters. A couple of these we painted ourselves at a convention held at the Clarecraft pottery. I think that may have been the first Discworld convention.
There we got to meet the great man and get a book signed. We've not been to an event recently, but I understand that they continue all over the world. It's said that an unsigned Pratchett was actually rarer than a signed one as he did so many. I also heard that back when you had to sign to use your credit card he had to practice for a while after an event so that his signature was recognisable.
This is most of our collection of books. My partner has re-read them all and I would too if I had time. They started as parodies of fantasy books, but became a mirror to our world where things worked out differently due to a bit of magic. He had his own sense of humour that I loved. There were some TV movies made, but they don't have the same 'magic'. There's an upcoming movie of one of his books that was aimed at kids, called The Wee Free Men. That series of books can appeal to adults too as there are some dark themes.
There was a Discworld game. This was a point and click adventure. I played it using a Mac emulator on my Amiga. I don't think I got very far with it.
