Market Friday is hosted by the wonderful @dswigle. I first Denise back in June last year when I joined Steemit, and started chatting with her on Discord. I was so delighted to find out that she had been to my country and was familiar with my culture. We connected instantly, and when I saw her doing her tag #MarketFriday , I made note to try and enter it whenever I could. It's a great way to take a trip around the world without even leaving your sofa.
My entry for this weeks #MarketFriday is a little German butchery in my neighbourhood. This butchery might be small but it is an iconic piece of Capetonian history and culture.
We first discovered Uwe the German butcher when we moved in around the corner almost ten years ago. My hubby @morkrock is biltong obsessed. Biltong is like beef jerky, but a million times better.
Here's South African pop culture idol, Suzelle (who is actually a parody) explaining how to make biltong. She's hilarious
Any way, I digress. AGAIN!
The butchery has some of the weirdest decor I have ever seen, with blue and yellow walls and fishing nets all over the place. Don't ask
They have all types of meats and sausages, but specialise in biltong, droewors (a special kind of dried and cured sausage - my fave is the aniseed and warthog) and game meat.
Tonight I saw some Kudu fillet, so I want to find a recipe to experiment with that contains Kudu. He also has Warthog, Eland and other game meat. I have seen duck and guinea fowl too.
The butcher and shop owner, Uwe, is from the Baltic Sea region of Germany, and I just love visiting him. He is so friendly and cool. He has a really funny way about him, is just a lot of fun.
I wanted to take a pic of him in his shop, but he insisted @morkrock be in the pic too. So now I am jealous that I didn't get a pic with Uwe too!
Let's see your entries for #MarketFriday! Thanks @dswigle for this awesome tag!
