I just watched Jimi: All is by My Side. It covers a part of Jimi Hendrix's career from when he was still a backing guitarist until he flew off to play at Monterey.
I don't know how historically accurate it is, but assuming it is there are a few details I didn't know. OutKast's André Benjamin does a very good imitation. There are 'cameos' by lots of other musicians of the time, but most don't have much to do. It gives some flavour of the period when I was more concerned with crawling around and pooping. I was a child of the 60s in that I don't remember it, but then I was much too young. I did work with a guy who saw The Experience play in a London club.
My issues with it are that not much really happens. There is some drama when Jimi loses his temper, but not much else. Considering how exciting a time it was for music it's very everyday with some scenes where nobody does much. And then there's the music. Apparently they couldn't get rights to use any of his songs, so there are just a few bits of songs he covered with guitar work by Waddy Wachtel. Those are too brief for my liking.
It's an interesting bit of history, but not much of a movie. The IMDB rating of 5.6/10 seems about right. Just watch the real thing
