Turtles are perhaps the only creatures on Mother Earth that are physically built to demand their sacred space. We should take consideration for this, especially as we consider that the turtle is representative of the spirit of the very planet. Turtles represent the journey itself, for the goal is worthless without knowing the path. Turtle is all of our mother, and in being so she offers ways to nurture and endure, if only we listen.
My Reiki master gave me many teachings, many gifts. Perhaps the most important of those jewels (outside of Reiki) was the practical application of sacred space. I was shown that sacred space exists just a sliver of every moment: it is the space between breaths. As we breathe in, we intake many things, from air to energy. As we breathe out, we release the parts that we do not use, as well as our choice of gifts to the next moment. There is a whisper of a space between the inhale and exhale, then again between the exhale and the next inhale.
Suddenly a whole new world opened to me, one that offered refreshment and replenishment in every moment! The ability to carry the renewable energy of the spring became a much more successful task. Mini-meditation became possible, rejuvenating with every breath no matter the situations around me. My ministry and healing capabilities reached new heights with this knowledge!!
Every living being has a right to sacred space. The definition of sacred space in this capacity would be a place where we are the ultimate judges of every aspect of that place. No energy can enter that space without permission!! EVER!!! It is the innermost chamber of our own individual temples, our custom womb in the Goddess of creation. It is in this concept that we find the smiling inner being, the part of us that cannot be touched or taken no matter the circumstances around us. As we learn to embrace this safe-haven inside of us, we learn to recognize it in a way that makes it concrete rather than just abstract.
It is our gift and our responsibility to set the boundaries for this sacred space. It is important to realize that we alone have that power, no matter how much another may try and convince us otherwise. This permission can only be bestowed, never taken by force. Even if you have given authority to enter, it can always be retracted. There is never a moment when you are not in complete control of the guest list!!
For my sacred space I envision a clearing in the forest. There is a campfire in the center of it, with hammocks and tents scattered around the clearing. There is a clearly defined boundary for the clearing and also for the rest of the woods. There is also a force-field of Agape, invisible to the eye but felt, known and trusted to repel all unwelcome visitors.
I defined my boundaries a long time ago and they have been basically the same ever since. Peace is required. Honesty, respect, these are absolutely required. I have also put in a clause about energy equality, so that "energy vampires" are re-routed to the direct source of the Light rather than my own cup. The details of what you choose for your own boundaries are your own, but you get the idea. All you have to do is decide inside of yourself that a requirement exists. Poof, done.
When you are able to clearly define the boundaries of your inner circle, then you will find that you are drawn to the space. It takes only a minimal amount of repetition to automatically access this place regularly. Feeling nurtured, safe, and refilled on life, your being will gravitate towards success!
It is also possible with practice to extend the boundary requirements of your sacred space to cover the physical place of your residence, to some extent. Look forward to a future post relaying the story of the Red Clay Water Monster...
Sacred Space is a God given right. It is something simple and a necessary tool to help us down each of our paths. Many of you may have already experienced this, or feel the familiarity of the concept. Sharing knowledge is the key to any communal focus. Knowledge equals power.
