Bret Weinstein, the Evergreen State College professor who was driven from campus by a mob of students earlier this year, is preparing to file a $3.8 million claim against the public institution.--Nikita Vladimirov, Campus Reform |
I am often mocked for referring to Marxists and Marxism when addressing the American Left...some of my friends think I'm a tad nuts.

Enter Mark Tapson's report of Young Marxist Clubs popping up in our high schools. Really.
I admit it - I'm a dinosaur. I remember the Korean War. I remember the Soviet response to the Hungarian Rebellion. I remember the Communists that infested the governments of FDR and Truman.
I remember the Cold War, and the day the Berlin Wall came down.
I mourn the 100,000,000 (give or take a million here, a million there) victims murdered by Marxist states. Knowing that high school kids are no longer taught of the genocidal history of Marxism angers me.
"Young Marxist" clubs should concern every American parent capable of walking and chewing gum at the same time.
Wow. Just wow.

Nikita Vladimirov reports, "the Evergreen State College professor who was driven from campus by a mob of students earlier this year, is preparing to file a $3.8 million claim against the public institution."
I love watching the left eat its own, and this case is sure to be a classic. Frankly, I'm hoping Weinstein cleans Evergreen's clock - the college certainly deserves a trip to the cleaners, although I suspect the taxpayers of Washington State will end up footing the bill.
Tom Knighton makes an interesting point I confess I hadn't considered when he points out that students participating in violent demonstrations (riots) to deny conservative speakers their free speech rights actually end up helping those speakers to spread their message:
The funny thing is that their violence, the actual violence they commit to combat so-called violent speech, actually helps spread the word. How many people had no clue who Milo was until after Berkeley students rioted? Charles Murray saw popularity in his book increase following the antics of Middlebury students.
They did more to spread that speech than Milo, Murray, or any other right-leaning speaker could have done that day. A small speech on a college campus ended up on every computer screen in the country.
Hard to argue with the logic.
Toni Airaksinen explains that Rutgers has joined San Jose State and now requires "requires freshmen to pay for their own microaggression training as part of the $175 New Student Orientation program."
In other words, victims of leftist ideologues are now being forced to pay for the privilege of having their brains filled with Marxist mush.
Think about this. Thousands upon thousands of incoming freshmen will be forced to undergo Marxist indoctrination before they attend their first class...year after year. These thousands of snowflakes-in-waiting will then be relentlessly exposed leftist agitprop during their entire time at university.
Then they graduate and infest our communities.
Airaksinen also covers the story of Dr. Trent Bertrand, who "was suspended and subjected to a months-long investigation" which he claims was because he criticized safe spaces and political correctness - at Johns Hopkins University, no less. This provides yet another glaring example of the left's intolerance of tolerance - anyone disagreeing with the party line must be purged, lest students get bizarre ideas about thinking for themselves.
...Then they graduate and infest our communities.

Dr. Trent Bertrand was suspended and subjected to a months-long investigation after 3 students complained that the joke create a "hostile learning environment," after which the school declined to renew his contract. Bertrand, however, suspects that the "real reason" for his dismissal was that he had criticized the school for catering to “Political Correctness” and “Safe Space” culture.
Rutgers University requires freshmen to pay for their own microaggression training as part of the $175 New Student Orientation program.
The one-hour presentation insists, somewhat defensively, that it is not "making a big deal out of nothing," saying microaggressions cause "significant long-term harm" like "illness and a decreased immune system."
The issue on American campuses, and with the left in general, isn't that they dislike what some people say. That's just part of life. The issue is that they dislike what those people say so much, they came up with "speech is violence" to shut them up.
They have it in their head that the words of someone like Milo Yiannopolous are so toxic, no one can be permitted to hear them lest they become infected with a deadly virus. They treat speech like a biological warfare agent when it's nothing of the sort.
Harvey Klehr, a professor of politics and history at Emory University who has written several books on Communism, told Intellectual Takeout (IT) Marxist youth movements in the U.S. are not new, though they have historically been few and far between, even during the height of Communism in America, and Communist clubs in schools were rare.
Parents anonymously expressed their frustration to IT that schools would assist in the formation of student clubs centered on the world's deadliest ideology. One possible reason for this flowering of Marxist youth clubs, IT posits, is that young Americans "are largely ignorant of Communism’s bloody history":
The claim accuses Evergreen State of "fostering a racially hostile work and retaliatory environment" by encouraging the student protests that forced Weinstein to flee campus for his own safety.
