Snowflakes Are Useful Idiots #50: Perhaps God isn't dead after all

"because I'm deeply alarmed by the rise of intolerance on college campuses, especially because that intolerance comes from one direction only, from the left…If you disagree with them you are immediately branded as evil and/or stupid."--Carlos Eire, Yale

I was encouraged reading Rachel Frommer's report about Ivy League professors coming out strongly in support of free expression, telling students to "Think for yourself."

Faculty from Princeton, Harvard, and Yale have signed an open letter to incoming university students, begging them to reject the "vice of conformism," and instead, "Think for yourself."

Perhaps God isn't dead after all.

...and I fully anticipate widespread faculty demands for the resignations of the professors advocating for liberty in our universities. Can't have that, now can we?

Frommer's second report deals with a scheduled snowflake gathering at the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign) branded as a "radical anti-fascist demonstration" - which means, in all probability, that anyone disagreeing with the snowflakes for any reason, particularly if you are Jewish, or just foolish enough to believe that the State of Israel has an implicit right to defend itself against Arab terrorism, God forbid, could get the crap beaten out of them.

None of the organizers responded to the Washington Free Beacon‘s requests for comment, although SJP UIUC has previously told this reporter, "If you like you can take a ticket and we can get back to you in about 69 years. It's a long wait, ask any Palestinian, but it shouldn't be too hard for a Zionist such as yourself. I mean, holding something that isn't yours for long periods of time."

No bias there, nosirree, and absolutely no racism, perish the thought. Because.

H/T Jennifer Kabbany, Thomas Lifson:

"Administrators at The Evergreen State College have announced that the embattled school faces a massive $2.1 million budget shortfall due in part to a drop in enrollment, and the institution has already handed out some temporary layoff notices..."

Evergreen State follows the University of Missouri's path towards enlightment: Judging from plunging enrollment after tolerating Marxist violence on campus, it would appear that young people aren't all that thrilled at the possibility of paying vast sums of money to be yelled at, ridiculed or assaulted by out-of-control snowflakes. Imagine that!

With Mizzou, it was the violently racist Black Lives Matter; with Evergreen, nasty little fascists. In both cases, the public response is clear: Violence on campus is bad for business. Even the mightly Marxist bastion UC Berkeley is feeling the pushback after repeated leftist violence and suppression of free speech, as Thomas Lifson reports:

"Even the mighty University of California, Berkeley, which touts itself as the leading public university in the world, is feeling the effects of toxic progressivism in the wake of violence and intimidation forcing the cancelation of talks by conservative speakers like Milo Yiannopoulos and Ben Shapiro. It turns out that the most lucrative students, those who apply from out of state and overseas and pay roughly triple the tuition California students pay, have stopped applying to Cal Berkeley in the numbers they used to."

Karma's such a bitch.

Green Acres Thought Police
Neal Brown, the head of the Green Acres School in Bethesda, Maryland, issued a directive on the school’s home page to all parents. In the letter, Brown wrote that “Redskin” was a racial slur. Intentional or not, its use is “deeply insulting and offensive.” It’s a term that “demeans a group of people.”
“Similarly,” Brown’s letter continued, “the team’s logo also can reasonably be viewed as racially demeaning. At best, the image is an ethnic stereotype that promotes cultural misunderstanding; at worst, it is intensely derogatory.”

Brown followed up with a request that students not be sent to school wearing the Redskin's logo...even though polls have indicated that 90% of our Native American community don't give a damn and aren't the least insulted or demeaned by the "Redskins".

Exactly what we should expect from a school founded on John Dewey's "progressive" principles.
