ULOG 078 - Shopping in Cabramatta & Resuming Kombucha Brewing

Shopping in Cabramatta

Living on The Central Coast is nice, you are close to the ocean and there are many outdoors activities to do. However, for us it can also be inconvenient as we are far from the asian groceries. The closest ones are expensive and don't have enough diversity of products. So once in a while we drive for about 2 hours to get to Cabramatta for shopping and lunch. One of our friend got some candied Star Gooseberry from Vietnam and brought some for us. This is how the fruits look like on the tree, they are turn pale yellow from green when ripe.

To make the candied Star Gooseberry, you cook them in a sugar syrup and they turn ruby red on their own and are very nice eating. When I was a kid in New Caledonia, we used to have a Star Gooseberry tree and my uncle's wife (who is Thai) made candied fruits for us.

While my wife went for shopping after lunch at Tân Việt restaurant, she went do her shopping while I took the boy for a walk to find some Rice Paddy Herb to plant them again on the windowsill.

We got distracted on the way to the shop, San wanted to clim on the tortoise statue and we also went for some fruit smoothies.

On the way back, we shared the driving as I was rather tired this week. After dinner, I decided to resume brewing kombucha. I stopped doing it almost two months ago when I was sick. Luckily it was pretty cold up until now and the previous brew that was still waiting for the second fermentation was still healthy and good tasting so I started the second fermentation by adding some apple juice and made a new batch (see picture above). If you want to check how I prepare my Fizzy Apple Kombucha, have a look at my other post: Loving my apple flavored Kombucha.

So, please, follow these simple steps and keep yourself safe:
