ULOG 090 - What's the truth behind DLive leaving Steem for Lino blockchain!

13 hours ago @wa7 announced the news that DLive will leaving Steem to go to Lino blockchain on Tuesday, September 25th 2018. This news was quite a shock to many as @DLive is one of the Dapps that are a part of the Steem landscape.

Why are they leaving?

They are mentioning about not being able to "reward our content creators with the true value of their content" due to "the current economic model of Steem" that "incentivizes large Steem holders to continuously upvote their own content and other creators who specifically support their content". It is also mentioned that the account creation time on Steem is a barrier to maintstream adoption.

On one hand, I do understand the frustration here. Back in February this year, it took me about a week to get my account created. I invited two of my colleagues to join Steem back then, it took them almost two weeks to get their account and by the time they had it created, they have lost motivation to participate and their account is now inactive. True, as well, that it's not easy for a new blogger without a previous pool of followers to get a good reward but looking at several great authors on the platform, it's not impossible to succeed but tough.

Is that it?

It's their business, they do what they believe is good for them but there is my concern. Have they joined Steem in the first place to help it grow and grow with it? Or have they joined it to profit from it?

This is what @meno is talking about in his detailed comment well worth the $84.81 STU upvote value at the time of writing of this #ulog. @meno has found several facts that point a speculated possibility that all this was already planned from the start:

  • a project that appeared out of nowhere and was an instant success
  • a Dapp that is actually very centralised to the point that even when the blockchain is down it is still functioning
  • the leader of the project is also part of the Lino team
  • organising a logo contest "to detach the brand from Steem" to get closer to Lino by adopting "a color scheme that goes well with" its branding.
  • @dynamicgreentk further stressed the fact that DLive is leaving Steem right on the 25th of Sept which is also the date of release of HF20 that "actually starts to resolve the very issues they brought up here".

Was DLive a plan to use the Steem blockchain to finance Lino blockchain?

Password and Private Keys security

You all know that your Steem password is the access to all your STEEM, SBD, posting, transferring, everything... right?
So, please, follow these simple steps and keep yourself safe:

  1. Apart from the initial setup of your account, NEVER use your password ANYWHERE, if stolen, it will give full control to your Steem account.
  2. Backup your password and keep it somewhere safe. Use a password manager like Lastpass, print it on paper and put it in a safe (no kidding). If you forget your password, no one can help you out.
  3. To login for creating content and curating, use your Private Posting Key
  4. To make transfers and account operations, use your Private Active Key
  5. To encrypt and decrypt memos, use your Private Memo Key
