Prunda Undervesch - Splinterlands Art Contest 276

Heya Hive !!

I have just completed my participation for Splinterlands Art Contest. This time, I chose a mermaid. I wanted to try out some things, and besides...

It's been a while since I did one of these, since I drew the two mermaids together a couple of times. But, well, I really like mermaids, so I didn't miss the opportunity to try again with one of these characters.

I didn't find specific details about this character, but besides being Common and sharing two Splinters, it's a Life summoner. Beyond that, I couldn't find the lore. I need to do a bit of research, but well, you probably already know her; she's one of the new characters from Rebellion. If you happen to know the lore, don't hesitate to share!

I made this character in Corel Painter and Photoshop, half and half. Actually, the combination of both programs has been working for me so far.

Each program has its own thing, so I benefit from some of those features, and well, I haven't read the Corel guide. I haven't had time for it, but even though it's a bit old, it offers some good stuff.

I just have to read more than 1000, including the guide and the help, to figure out how to do it.

So, I decided to start this drawing by envisioning an environment like a cave from the inside, with rocks and waterfalls. I drew some initial lines to outline the main shapes and angles that would serve as the base for everything else.

-.-

After having the structure, the next step was to place the character. Well, actually, it was just a smudge without much detail, simply to capture the silhouette of the mermaid's position. I wanted to adjust the canvas size, so I made a small tweak when the drawing was more advanced to keep it the same size.

I have mixed feelings about the green or blue skin, hahaha. When I started with the character, I think my head didn't realize that the girl was that color, and I used a different color. So, later, with some adjustments and color overlay, I changed the base color to this

-.-

I wasn't going to leave her naked, so, looking at the character reference, I started putting on the outfit the girl would wear. I also made some adjustments to the background; it looked very blue before. I have nothing against blue, but it shouldn't be that blue here.

-.-

As I progressed, I started detailing things a bit more and accentuating the blue colors of the mermaid's skin a little, as it lacked more intensity in that. Besides, it had some small spots and gradients mmmm well, I would work on that later.

-.-

There were several things to improve and detail a bit more. At first, I wanted to make it less detailed, perhaps like the Lord I did last week, but then I decided to add a bit more detail. Oh! And fix some mistakes, like the arm.

-.-

To finish this drawing, among other things, I had to do the face—leaving it for last again? Well, I did a bit in previous steps but not as much as I should have to finish that. Also, I needed to improve the background, work on the water, the staff, and other things. Some adjustments with colors, shadows, highlights, and more. It was ready!

Thank you very much for taking the time to view my work.
