TL;DR Tonight I gave a presentation on Steem & SteemIt.com to the Blockchain Meetup in Phoenix, AZ (a group I have been co-organizing for over a year which has over 140 members on http://meetup.com/blockchaintech ). Thought it would be fun to use SteemIt.com to store the "slides" for the talk. So, I used SteemIt.com to give a talk on Steem and SteemIt. I'll post the YouTube video as soon as possible. The talk covers introductory to more advanced material (including how to use the command line interface for Steem).

Brief introduction of the speaker
A Bitcoin and “Distributed Technologies” enthusiast since about 2013 and have participated in four Bitcoin Hackathons. I’ve been interested in Ethereum since the 2014 Texas Bitcoin Conference [and in STEEM since July 2016].
Software developer full time since 2007 and am currently working on several things, including the multiple traveling salesman problem.
Earned a B.S. in 1999 from UMass Amherst, an M.A. in 2001 from Boston University, and a Ph.D. (all in physics) from the University of Arizona in 2007 with a focus on analysis of particle physics data from the Fermilab Tevatron in Batavia, IL using C++ and Perl on Linux.

- STEEM became one of the top 3 cryptocurrencies by market cap while I was on vacation

A very rough description of the 3 currencies related to STEEM
Q: What are STEEM DOLLARS, STEEM and STEEM POWER?
To make a long story short, STEEM DOLLARS, STEEM, AND STEEM POWER are like the "Holy Trinity" (I was raised Catholic so I get to say that) of currencies in the Steem ecosystem. STEEM DOLLARS (SD) are a token with a value which should be similar to ... dollars. STEEM is the 'native' currency of Steem, and STEEM POWER (SP) is a beast which gives you super voting powers on SteemIt, holds onto your money for two years and rewards, and you handsomely for letting it do so.

What is SteemIt.com
A website which uses the Steem blockchain as its database, acts as a web wallet for STEEM, and allows people to sign up and get free STEEM POWER to get started.
Signing up is very similar to any other website, but you want to be very careful with your keys (use a password manager).
