What Is SteemTipper

Earlier this week, SteemTipper was launched.
This free service allows you to use Steem to tip users on other social media platforms. For now, it can only be used with Twitter, but other social media platforms will be added soon.

Why Use SteemTipper?

You can look at SteemTipper as a way to send a little token of appreciation to someone. Did somebody help you out? Send him a tip. Did someone share a great idea, or made a valuable contribution to a discussion? Send him a tip. You can use SteemTipper for whatever you want.

The nice thing about SteemTipper is that the people you send a tip to don’t even have to have a SteemIt account. If you send them a tip, they can use it to forward the gesture and send the tip to someone else.

How To Use SteemTipper

First, you have to visit the SteemTipper website.

In the top right corner, you can find the button to connect your Twitter account.

Once you’ve connected your Twitter account, you’ll be redirected to your dashboard.

Before you can start tipping, you need to deposit some Steem. You find a ‘Deposit’ link in the top menu.

On the Deposit page, you need to fill in the amount you want to deposit, your SteemIt username and your Twitter username. Once you’ve entered all information, you can create a deposit link through Steemconnect.

Go through the Steemconnect process to finalize your deposit.

Now you’ve added some Steem to your balance, you can start tipping.

To send someone a tip via Twitter, you need to use a special formula:

@steemtipper tip @twitternametotip amount steem

In the example below, you can see how I sent a tip of 0.5 steem to @omitaylor.
You can add a message to the tweet too, if you want to.

You can keep track of the tips you sent and the ones you’ve received in your SteemTipper dashboard.
As you can see I received a tip from @followbtcnews, one of the creators of SteemTipper.

📣 Steemtipathon

Following the example of @omitaylor, who came up with the idea of a #steemtipathon in her post about SteemTipper, I will use all earnings from this post and deposit them in my SteemTipper account.

On Tuesday May 8th, I will be spreading the tips around, using the hashtag #steemtipathon.
