Steemit in the news

I keep an eye out for any coverage of Steemit. As we approach 200,000 users we're getting more celebrities and journalists signing up who will talk about it. Thousands are being added every week, but I've no idea if the backlog is growing or not.

@bullishmoney has a piece on Investor Place about Steemit as a Facebook killer. He mentions a few Steemians, including musician @wvm. Facebook is one of the biggest internet companies ever. They will not give up their position easily, but can they compete with a site that doesn't need ads and pays the users? I think the main issue for Steemit will be scaling up to handle the demand, although it could stand improvement in the user interface of course. Maybe they will feel ready for the first million after the imminent hardfork.

The other article I found is more neutral. It's about blockchain and uses Steemit as an example. It links to Wikipedia where a critic is quoted as saying that Steemit could be a ponzi scheme. I think most of us know that's not true.

It looks like investors are a little less confident in crypto at this moment with all coins falling. It could be time for a shake-up with a few bouncing back based on their real prospects rather than hype. I think Steemit will be one of them.

Steem on!
