It's just about nine months since I joined Steemit. I've managed over 7500 posts and comments in that time. That's about 28 each day! I tend to do a couple of posts, but I love having conversations and so I comment frequently (and profusely). It's not making me rich, but I'm having a lot of fun and making new friends all around the world. I think this is the best way for new users to build a following and get on the road to success with Steemit.
My followers keep rising and enough of them are active to get me some good responses to my posts. I follow enough people to ensure that my feed is always full of interesting stuff, but I won't just follow back everyone as my time for reading is limited.
All these posts puts me 17th in the Steemwhales chart. A few above me are bots, but it's going to be hard to climb much higher there. I'm amazed I'm even on the first page anyway.
Does all this effort earn me much? Well, not really. It has varies a lot, but I'm making a few dollars per post these days. That doesn't go far here, but then I'm powering it up anyway. I aim to reach 10,000 SP during May. I don't plan to power down until Steem is worth far more so that a week of powering down will give me a nice chunk of money to spend. I still need to look into how I would spend it as it may still involve converting to Bitcoin and finding some way to get that in £££. My suggestion of a direct Steem to PayPal convestion doesn't look likely any time soon.
I'd love to buy myself a new acoustic guitar this year, so I'll look at options to do that with Steem. I still wouldn't totally cash out as I believe in the future of Steemit. I think we are close to going viral. When that happens then we are likely to each earn less Steem as the rewards pool is spread thinner, but Steem should gain in value. I am trying to imaging what Steemit will look like with a million active users. It needs to get to that sort of level to get real attention from the world. For now its a fun little club that is paying some of us nicely for participating. I think communities could be the tipping point, but it's going to need the right sort of marketing and publicity. That's not my field, but I'll help where I can.
My success is evidence that an ordinary guy can do well here, but it does take some work. Keep at it and the sky's the limit.
Steem on!
