The Grand Master held his wife close for a moment. Then turned to the other Knights behind him. “Start spreading the word. We have one week to leave.” He sighed softly, “Share as much information as you feel then need to share.”
The Masters of the other orders nodded and walked toward their Chapter Houses, gathering their initiates and followers as they moved away from the gatehouse.
Patryg glanced over to where Samael was holding his wife. With an arch of his brow, he conveyed a whole question. Is she disappointed? Samael, who had caught the nonverbal question, nodded slightly. What did I expect? This is the only home most of us have ever known.
The Knights had chapter houses in almost every major city and keeps in several countries, but the Keep was everyone's first home. It was here that they trained, here that they formed their first communities, where they learned to work with other people and were exposed to other cultures. It won't be a huge loss, it'll be just like losing a home.
“Does Jaymes know?” He whispered into Eva's ear.
Small, delicate shudders racked her frame at the touch of his breath on her skin. “Ummm. Yes, I think he has suspicions.” She murmured as she snuggled in closer. “I think he's in the Crystal Chamber, meditating.” She arched up into him and lifted her face for a kiss.
After what seemed like eternity in her embrace, his lips left hers. “We could spend the rest of the afternoon in the Vestibule.” At her hopeful glance, he brushed his thumb across her lips. “As much we would both enjoy it, we really need to go talk to him. He deserves to know the truth.”
Jaymes was their son, and at eighteen, was just shy of completing his initiation in the Order of the Crown. Like his parents, he had spent his whole life in around the keep, and knew every nook and cranny.
Eva nodded with a slight pout of disappointment. “Yes, he deserves to know.” A hopeful knowing grin crossed her lips. “How about afterwards? Could we still?” She pressed against him, signaling her need for intimacy.
Patryg pulled her close and kissed her again. “Oh, I guarantee it. It's been far too long since we've had any alone time.” He whispered in her ear, drawing more delicate shudders from her frame.
