Here are some of our chicken. And a cat that is patiently waiting for her/his turn to eat. Other than grounded corn mixed with some chicken food, we also feed them with grass currently since there is no grass in the area where they are staying yet, but as soon as the spring comes they will have an abundant amount of it available. We also give them any leftover bread mixed with some luke warm water and sometimes cats come to eat with them. That way bread is not waisted and both, chicken and cats are full and happy.
This is the only rooster we have. He has a little bit of a story. For a very long time we thought he was a chicken. He was always a lot smaller than the rest and didn't really have any characteristics of a rooster. He also had a little bit of a leg deformation and it was very difficult for him to walk. He would wobble and it always made me wonder if he was in pain. My parents were debating on what to do with him since chicken would also bully him so he always had to eat last, when they have enough and move on with their day. Then one day my mom told me that it looks like she is actually he . I didn't believe her at first but soon he started to look more like a rooster and his walking improved a little bit. His feathers also got a little bit darker then before. Since I feed the chicken every day lately, I always give them food first and then to him, on the side and I'm there while he's eating otherwise chicken would come, bully him, he would hide and they would eat his food too.
Five eggs today! Yesterday we had seven. No matter how much we have, we are very happy to have our own eggs again. Last spring we had an incident when two dogs made a hole under the fence, entered and killed all of our chicken. The area where they are was full of dead chicken, blood and feathers. Nothing like that ever happened to us so we were all in shock! We had to get baby chicken and bring them up again. Even though these ones have been laying eggs since September, I am still happy we don't have to buy eggs anymore.
Of course, there's always cats around. This one was comfortably sleeping so I tried my best not to disturb her. She had babies last year and seems like she's gonna have babies again. We never really know until one day she comes for a walk with 3-4 kittens. Later on I was feeding the one from the first picture and one more, trying to gain they trust and possibly pet them in the future since none of them really allows anyone to touch them.
Backyard flowers. It still looks and feels like spring here in Serbia. We'll see what the actual spring will bring. I hope we won't get snow in April, lol.
