[Travel Update] Street art in LX Factory Lisbon

If there’s one spot in Lisbon I would mark as ‘hipster paradise’ it would be LX Factory. Old warehouses and even a church are currently filled with hip restaurants, coffee bars, and shops of unique and ‘hip’ quality.

I like these places, even though I’m aware of their negative gentrification side effects.I love not demolishing parts of a city but instead reinventing them. I like the imagination people needed to have to see the value of a place once abandoned and deemed ‘out of use’. And, even though I would not call myself a hipster per se, I like original products and the love people poured into them.

LX Factory

Back to the LX Factory: not only are all the empty buildings being reused for a greater hipster good, most of these buildings contain some form of graffiti or street art. So for me, this was a nice and very compact walking tour through a (from the outside almost invisible) part of Lisbon.

I’ve selected some of the best pieces I found to share with you.

The girl with blue reflection in her eyes

One of the first ones I saw in LX Factory was the girl, painted in black and grey tones, but with some blue reflections in her eyes. What is she looking at?

The woman behind bars

She wasn't meant to be behind bars, she looks like the Little Red Riding Hood, having a basket in her hands (not visible in this photo). But I saw the gate and decided to frame her with the bars in front.

Skeleton galore!

There are at least ten of these skeleton heads side by side on a wall in the LX Factory! All different from each other, but all in these same color pallet. I just picked one, but I guess the whole series of them would make a nice collection of postcards.

Sad grandpa

For some reason, this figure looks old and sad. I really love these colors against the grey cement.

There are many more art pieces to be found in the factory but for today I'll leave you with these. Today I'll explore Bairro Alto in Lisbon which is supposed to have many graffiti pieces as well. Oh, the joy!
