How to use GPG to encrypt and decrypt messages (video tutorial)

This is a tutorial video that explains how to use GPG on Windows to encrypt and decrypt messages.

In short, here are the steps taken in the video:

  1. Download GPG4Win from https://www.gpg4win.org/.
  2. Install the program and tick the box that says 'GPA'.
  3. Generate a key pair, make a back-up file, and create a passphrase.
  4. To encrypt a message, first receive the other person's key and click 'Import' in GPA.
  5. Open Clipboard and write the message.
  6. Click 'Encrypt', select the other person's public key, and tick the box that says 'Sign' and select your own private key to sign it.
  7. Enter your passphrase to confirm.
  8. Send the encrypted message via any messaging system.

To receive messages from other people:

You'll need to separate your public and private keys.

  1. Open your back-up file with Notepad (or another text editing program).
  2. Select your public key and copy it into a new text file.
  3. Save the new text file as your public key and send it to someone else.

Tip: To separate your keys, you can also right-click on your key pair in GPA and copy it to make a new public key file.

To decrypt encrypted messages:

  1. Paste the encrypted message into GPA's clipboard.
  2. Click 'Decrypt' and enter your passphrase.
  3. Read the message.

That's all folks!
